Although I've considered going back to 9mm now that it's being loaded to at least a minimally effective level (cant' wait for the replies that will get!), I just can't seem to give retiring my .40's more than a few moments thought. The only compelling 9s to me right now would be replacing the 92FS I sold 10+ years ago.. and I'll admit all the noise about the new CZ P10C is getting me interested in getting my mits on one of those too. I fear though.. that if I go down to the range and rent some 9s, it'll just kill my desire for them again... and since I have 6 .40s already... I'd have run out of reasons to buy more guns.. and that would just be sad. (geezus I need some help).

during ammo shortages .40 was just about the only thing available outside of oddball rifle calibers. I could find it everywhere and the prices didn't increase nearly as dramatically as 22lr and other more commonly used calibers.
We also could find .40 often during the lovely ammo dry spell of 2013.
    I never had/have trouble finding 40.
You probably don't like 10mm either...

    Here as well.

They were most pronounced on Gen1 and early Gen2... they made a change from and to perfection in Gen2 that made it better, but it's still measurable... I've seen significant examples in Gen4 G23s... I've never seen it from an aftermarket barrel- in fact, it's one of their selling points.

If you dont reload, it's not a big deal - and Glock only recommends factory ammo, not reloads.

My G23 is a Gen3 and I’ve put at least 500rds though it and haven’t see this on any of the brass.

I went back to carrying a 9mm for EDC but my .40 still gets run every 2 weeks

I carry both 9 and .40 pistols. .40 is a great round. I like .357 SIG even better. Too bad it never really gained traction and is hard to find. .40 was one of the easiest calibers to find during the ammo drought.

Hell no it's not dead. 40 is my preferred round. That's what my trusty EDC 'ole faithful SIG is chambered in. I know I'll get called out on this statement, but the damage I've been able to incur from a 40 vs a 9 is night and day.

The unsupported chamber issue popped up mainly due to hot reloads. You rarely see it with factory new ammo. There were a few issues with guns blowing up due to a case letting go in the chamber. The internet naturally had a field day. The common issue was reloads.

I'll agree kabooms generally came from reloads, but I've seen to many thousands of spent shell casings that were Glock'd for that to be just reloads... it's documented for SOME Glock .40 models/generations to deform brass... with factory loads it's not dangerous, but that doesn't mean we have to like it...

It has to either be scrapped, or resized in a special full-length die. (Depending on severity)

But if you don't reload, and only shoot factory ammo... by all means, deform all the brass you want.

I've never seen any deformities, but, I don't reload, and all but 1 of my Glocks have LW barrels.
I've had my original G23, which is my EDC, since the early 90's.

I don't reload and I buy locally manufactured ammo that has been very high quality as far as I can tell so far.

Another way to solve that issue is to stop buying glocks. :)

The problem they, these other calibers, will have to face is that with modern self defense and duty ammo the performance between 9 mm and 40, 357 sig, 45acp are so close as to make such a choice come down to ease of use. That is, which one will you shoot more? For most that ends up being 9mm. After that cost may be an issue.

I switched from 357, we still used revolvers for duty till late 90s, and 45 acp to 9mm in revolver and auto many years ago. I did so only because of nerve damage in hands and shoulders made shooting the rest very uncomfortable and I noticed the inevitable changes from flinch and accuracy such pain caused. I carry Glock 19 and 17 size weapons mostly cause shooting them is so easy. I do have a shield in 9mm I shoot very little and carry as much. It's only for the most "concealed means concealed " locations.

I will say I had an early Glock 22 and hated it. Never tried 357 sig or 10 mm.

Interesting comment on the G22. Of all my .40 chambered Glocks, that is the one that I don't enjoy very much; in fact I'm considering selling entire upper assembly, putting the 9mm ejector in and building a 17 and see if I like it more.

I used my two 23's for home defense, the 27 for carry and my 35 for the sheer joy of punching holes in paper. :) The 22 just never lived up to my expectations. :/

The .40 still holds a solid place in the locals around here. It is a common competition round as well as a EDC. Winter SD use is becoming more common as well.
I had a few but when I consolidated calibers that one was passed along.

Just because the government (FBI) says a certain caliber is better doesn't ring my bell! I think the real reason they went back to the 9mm is because their pussy agents can't shoot a manly caliber. Lee Jurras came out with high velocity 9mm rounds in the 70's. Nothing new here, folks. Still made of LEAD & COPPER! If someone wants to go back to the 9mm, go ahead. But don't try to tell me it's as good as a .45ACP. Physics hasn't changed because of the magic bullets the FBI is touting. I call bullshit!

Hell, next thing you know they will tell you that a .44 magnum isn't needed for handgun hunting, just use your magic 9mm for deer! Geesus, some people will believe BULLSHIT because the FBI says so.

.45 is a crap round and has been surpassed for decades by 10mm and .50AE among others.

The fan boys keeping claiming how great it is but can only do so by comparing it to 9mm and .40 short and weak. They always conveniently forget that it's a weakling and has been surpassed for some time now. Same guys saying "don't trust the FBI" are licking the gov boots while fondling a hand full of .45 and a 1911, because the government thought it was good enough 100 years ago. Hell, Texas Rangers had .45 ACP beat in 1847.
