In my case 1/2 an hour.

My sheriff is half hour away also. That does not include him having to get up and ready... or all the deer he's going to have to slam on his brakes for. Me and my wife's home defense measures are very different than the OP's scenario. Best case scenario is a HP from the highway... they could get there in 20mins... But they still couldn't find our house.

Hopefully the home invaders also cannot find it...

Something I do is put night lights in the outlets through out my house that when there is movement around them the go out which makes it dark as hell in that area. It's one dead giveaway that something's wrong. Something else, low tech. I put a bell above my door, you know the old time ones that would let the shop owner know you opened the door. When that door opens at all that bell rings.

Y'all got me thinking. My house would be a nightmare to defend. The main entryway leads in three different directions on two floors to the bedrooms. I've got a rock fireplace/wall in the center of the house, but it's accessible on three sides - so if I used it for cover, bad guy could still flank me.

That is overlooked to the common person. Nobody thinks tactical when they look at floor plans.

Something else I learn from a SPECIAL person ,friend of mine. Don't think you need to carry everything at once. Usually I'm naked so pockets are minimal. I have picture frames that move or open up. Stuff underneath counter tops, in cookie jars, under toilet lids etc. Every point in the house that divides in to more rooms I have a stash in plain sight. I can fight to that point and reload or pick up something new. Or just take a item or two off of the ground after they drop it.

This seems opposite to how all motion sensor night lights I know of work.
Movement actually makes them turn off?

O by the way, depending on who you are dealing with depends on how you deal with the intruder. You might want to keep one alive for a few just to get some info on the rest or who sent him. Take his cloths off dress up like him. Walk or run out side. If he has a person outside picking him up, jump in and do him too. Don't screw around flip your switch and go turn into your wolf until it's done.. O and remember what John Wick does....everyone gets a head shot.

I think you watch too many movies.
No, it's who I use to work for that I am the way I am. That's why I have no kids, I was reluctant to get married, fu$#ed up in the head. I don't trust anyone. If these guys are coming for me, I know what I need to do. Think about who would be coming for you and attack appropriately. For those of you retired LAW ENFORCEMENT you know what's coming make it end that night or day.

Luckily I haven't done anything to anyone that would cause me to have to worry about retaliating as you suggest.
