How would anyone who is even vaguely aware that there are such things as AC and DC not know this? I mean if you talk to me about phases my eyes will probably glaze over but I did take a bunch of science classes in school and would have thought the differences between AC and DC are common knowledge?
You are kidding right? Although there may be many aware that there is a difference in AC and DC, I rarely, even in my adult students, find those that have the slightest idea what that difference is.

Just like most don’t know the relationship between volts, watts, and amps. Amps are what kill you, but that’s only part of the equation.

    Heck, even an Irishman knows

One thing about lads from Ireland is that their hearts and humor are always in the right place!

Jimmy Murphy, a City Councilor from Dublin, was asked on a local live radio talk show, just what he thought about the allegations of torture of suspected terrorists.

His reply prompted his ejection from the studio, but to thunderous applause from the audience.

    HIS STATEMENT:

‘If hooking up one fookin’ rag-head terrorist's testicles to a car battery gets the truth out of the lying little camel shagger to save just one Irish soldier’s life, then I have only three things to say; Red is positive, Black is negative, and make sure his nuts are wet.’

I'm mildly horrified. I mean I believe you, but is this not taught in schools anymore?

    You’re confusing what’s taught vs what’s retained.

Even as a 1992 HS graduate, has I not needed a reason to retain that knowledge, I would have dumped it.

Outside of folks who routinely work with electricity and electrical circuits, not many people have a need to retain this knowledge.

I would hazard to guess most could not differentiate the meanings of electrical circuit and electrified circuit. I figure most would assume they are synonymous, but in reality those terms mean different things.

Car batteries are DC (Direct Current), it's not just batteries when talking straight polarity and reverse polarity of direct current. What many people don't know is that AC (Alternating Current) the flow goes in both directions in cycles and the amount of cycles determines the frequency, while DC the flow only goes in one direction.

    What batteries are AC?
