You laugh, but at one of the mandatory silly academies we went to, there was a bike like that teal one only, worse handed down from class to class. People added crap like tassels, dolls, you name it. It was also traditionally a girl's bike. We would walk around, and this little Italian guy in our class, bought and rode the thing. I asked him if he was gay. He said he wasn't. I have my doubts to this day.

I'm sure your account, pin and social security numbers would have been sufficient.

Don, I was under the impression we're talking about phones people have in this century, like this:

    Not vintage items like that:

(I too thought talking caller ID was neat, for about 3 seconds)
Well works with me very well as I only have 9 numbers in my VIP list, I don't need anymore than that, so for me filtering out spam is ez, just don't answer.

For years I was tethered to a cell fone and or a pager and for years I carried both. When the fone rings it rarely brings good news and if it rings after about 6 pm it brings nothing but bad news.

I also grew up with that. When the fone rang after about 8pm all I ever heard was dad saying: "I will be ready when you arrive!" We would stand in the front door as dads bags were always packed and a Govt sedan would pick him up, we had no idea where he was going or when he was coming back.

Today, you get me on the fone then you have really done something...

It's Monday. The spam/scam calls will start up again. it's usually pretty quiet on the weekends. I guess the scammers don't work weekends. Even the robots need a couple days off.

Okay, so far, by 8:15pm, I've had 8 unknown calls, all different numbers. All of them new numbers that haven't called before.

It has been on the radar of every house with a telephone for quite a while now, but it hasn't done much good.

I'm pretty sure you know what I meant.
What are people with phones going to do besides bitch about it, like I did by starting this thread.

34 State AGs, now that's a different story...

Get a phone with caller ID and spam blocker?
In my experience, they don't work worth a damn on spoofed numbers. I have real numbers blocked fine, but I get around 3 to 5 spoofed number calls per day. I am not a techie, but I don't understand why it is so hard to get our devices (phones, call blockers, etc) to recognize when a call is actually coming from a number that is different than what the caller ID says and automatically block it. It seems to be easy enough tech for the spoofers to do it to us. Rant over.

Many parts of the problem impacting our ability to block unwanted calls, including those cell phone operating systems which do not allow 3rd party blocking software (nomorobo, et al) the hooks/access to a system level ability to actually block calls, but only allow them to send suspicious, or known robo callers to voice mail.

    Apple is one of those.

Carrier level efforts (Verizon, etc) that allow the user some ability to block help, but so far haven't been effective on spoofing.

Obviously going to take some regulatory effort, as well as technical effort to stop the spoofing and make it too expensive to use, then the other measures as mentioned above will be more effective.

While interesting it's still NWAS. I get a notice of a call and have to respond somehow. I don't want to get the damn things period. Make it illegal with healthy prison time is the only way I see to stop it. AND enforce the hell out of it.
