Ah see, the thing is, just ONE drink actually improves my shooting. But not wanting to set a bad example, I make due without.

And when I was around 10 to 12 years old, my brother and my cousins would walk the neighborhood playing army. This was during the time when COMBAT was a popular show on television. We even got the replica guns from Sears, or where ever our parents bought them. I had the Thompson, and my brother and cousins had the M1. We had the best times of our youth. FAST FORWARD to present time, and can anyone in here say that they see kids playing army? I don't. And, when we were "patrolling the neighborhood" looking for Krauts, nobody freaked out and called the cops. Imagine if kids did that in today's society. You know what? Growing old isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I have wonderful memories. Unfortunately, the kids of
today will grow up not knowing how to have conversation if their phone is broken. And remember in the neighbor hoods there were those mom and pop little grocery stores? My mom would send me down to the store and get her a pack of Salems for 20 Cents. We got the nickle and bought 5 cents of bubble gum. Tty that today, and watch your mom go to jail for child abuse.
I can recall being 9 or 10 and riding my bike to the Lone Star Ice-house to but cigarettes for my mom. I also recall going to the same store and getting a box of 22 LR. Good old days.

A few years younger than you but we also played cowboys and indians which isn't politically correct anymore. But we also played north and south! Imagine the looks if children carried around a confederate flag now.

Observation: At some point, almost all members go in for a bit of reminiscing.

That's I think the point of this thread and it's not an unusual topic, see top 10 favorite bands, etc.

Wow, you folks sure do know how to get off topic. I too had the Thompson. Got it at Western Auto. Same place I bought my .22 shorts and longs. We ran the neighborhood with total impunity. Everyone knew everyone. Dogs too. We would pick sides and go well into the summer night, sometimes right after watching Combat. I am 63 and can relate very well to this. We even did stunts like falling out of trees when shot. Sometimes that did not work out so well. Had a store a block away. Parents did not drink or smoke (town was dry anyway) But I would get a fried pie and a pint of choc. milk for a quarter. We also used cap guns and stick rifles. Whatever anyone had. We even used dirt clods as grenades. Sometimes they were too hard.

Today most kids who play army do it on a Play Station. My youngest still plays Call of Duty with guys he went to high school with in several different states online when he is not working as a Police Officer taking down real bad guys. He also fights MMA. I guess if kids did run the neighborhood with toy guns that looked as real as ours did someone would probably shoot them then call the law. I do miss those days. Thanks for the throwback.

Still not sure what that has to do with peanut butter or dope.
