In the 40+ years since I got my learner's permit, I have been pulled over for speeding about a dozen times, suspected open container once, expired inspection and registration stickers twice, and one time for being in the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong kind of car (red Mustang drop-top cruising slow down the Galveston seawall blvd), but I cannot remember a time I was pulled over for not using a turn signal...even on a motorcycle...

About a month before I left for Parris Island I was stopepd for having a head light out. When the officer came to the window I told him I was carrying. (Even though Ga does not have a Proclamation Law.) He asked about my Eagle, Globe and Anchor and what kind of gun I had. I told him I was bound for boot camp and a Glock 23. He told me to get my head light fixed and with an Ooh rah he sent me on my way. He didn't ask for my license, either of them, or my gun. And before I claimed the title, I understood Semper Fi.

I know many officers that take it easy on servicemen who are respectful when pulled over for a traffic violation. I guess its a perk of putting yourself in harms way for us. Thanks for what you do.

This was Castroville PD btw...not SAPD. I'm just happy they gave me a warning, I was really expecting a ticket.

Well, I got pulled over AGAIN LOL. Twice this week actually. Making it 3 times this month. However, these last two times were for a busted license plate light. The first time I got a written warning, but tonight was funny. I got pulled over, gave him the CHL and he asked me to step outside of the car. He disarmed me, took my CHL/Insurance/DL to the car and then searched my entire vehicle...supposedly I had acted suspicious before he pulled me over. I gave him permission to check everything out and he DID.

Anyways, when it came to the end of things, he handed me back the Ruger, told me he took one out of the pipe and put it back in the magazine...said I could rack it once I got back in my car. I was grateful I got a warning though..then bought the bulb after that lol.

My new GF lives out there and my car is bright yellow and turbocharged...so this will probably not be my last post on this matter. I'm also 21 years old, so I guess having a CHL at this age makes cops a bit nervous...

Did they ask you if they could search your car? Jeez!

"Acting suspicious" does not entitle him to search your car.

LOL, I know! This is pretty crazy. I mean...atleast I haven't got a ticket yet but it's weird to say the least...and my Ruger LCP seems to be spending a lot of time out of my hands during these traffic stops. I wonder what's gonna happen when I carry my Glock in the coming months.

Texascop2 - I don't believe he did. He asked if I had any drugs or illegal substances in the car, and I said, "No sir, you're more than welcome to search the vehicle if you'd like". I mean...I honestly didn't have anything to hide, but I was pretty surprised that he was willing to take the time to do it. Slow night I guess?

I thought they are able to search your car for basically any little reason...? Even without your permission. Like probable cause or something?

I'm really thinking my stupid loud ass car and young age is attributing to these encounters...well, obviously the busted license plate light was the cause of last nights, but after being pulled over it's all looks from there i'm guessing.

That was an excellent video, I sent it to my younger brother. I dont do drugs and I can count on 2 hands how many drinks Ive had in the last year so I dont ever have anything to hide but this is all very good information.

Vehicle searches typically fall into 2 categories, 1.) Consent searches 2.) Probable cause searches

Probable cause is not based on "any little reason".... i'm not telling you what to do when you get stopped, just letting you know there has to be a reason to search your car.

Is that video a couple posts back for real? It looks like a bad SNL sketch....that lawyer is giving bad advice in hopes of getting folks arrested therefore generating more business for him. lmao.....

I see that you are a cop. He said not to trust you.

No offense to you man but I would never let a cop search my car. And I have NOTHING to hide. Its a principal thing.

Now officer am I free to go or are you detaining me further?

What bad advice? It may be poor acting but in what way does that video show anything that will get folks arrested? Did you visit "www.flexyourrights.org"?

Lawyers need people to get arrested to have customers...there are easy common sense ways to keep a LE contact polite and courteouos and everyone goes on with their business...

this guy uses extreme examples and seems to like to see civilians challenge LE... his video also leaves civilian watchers with the feeling that LEOs are out to get you.

The icing on the cake is that he is an ACLU supporter (yes, the same ACLU that is behind bashing every pro gun law there is).....that should be all anyone needs to hear to run away from this guy.

Well how can I keep an officer from searching my vehicle if I inform him of my carry weapon, or hand him my CHL? Thats unacceptable to me, I should never be searched because I chose to carry. Its legal, it should not set off red flags.

I can now safely report that if you're doing 20mph over the speedlimit, a CHL will do jack shit when you're pulled over by a motorcycle cop ON your motorcycle. HA. :(

Well, I was driving to work and I apparently did not use a blinker when changing lanes (despite the fact that there were no cars within 200 meters of me) and I got pulled over. I handed him my CHL and my DL...and he went back to the car while his partner stayed at my other window. He disarmed me and when they both came back I got just a warning while he threw the Ruger LCP in the trunk. I'm fairly convinced that it got me out of the ticket...

So I guess the $140 fee paid itself off haha

That sounds a little Elitist to me. I think a warning was fare, but I think it is Elitist to say your CHL is what got you the warning. And why in the world would you allow them to disarm you. If you were in your vehicle, you dont have to show them your CHL card. You dont even need that card inside your vehicle. Everyone I know puts their gun within fast reach while in their vehicle. If you had your gun in your console your shouldnt have shown the cops your CHL card.
My cop buddy rides around when off duty with his handgun in his lap. When he told me that I thought it was such a good idea that I started doing it sometimes. If you get pulled over just put the thing in the console.
