Amazing how many people have “seen” Bigfoot as well.

I never said they do not climb. Just that I , nor any of the snake people I have worked with have ever witnessed it.

I have seen exactly two pictures online of climbing Texas rattlesnakes and one of them is pretty suspect.

Deadliest snake in the world, flew it in from Australia, sabertoothed Northern water s̶n̶a̶k̶e̶ viper.

Training my 10lb ShihPoo, pit bull wannabe, bitch to warn the retired folks hereabouts about snakes since they don't move that fast on crutches.

She's put it out to sea (well, lake) four times now and it keeps coming back.

Relocating these ̶d̶e̶a̶d̶l̶y̶̶ friendly things ain't always easy ... jus saying.

Using live bait? Scent of dead bait fish could be attracting them.

Not often enough for that to be the likely reason.
It was the time of the year that it was likely a female looking for a place to give birth.
They're aggressive in any event ...

Talk about climbing snakes.....I found a bright green, 4 foot Vine snake in a trellis, I’d been kneeling next to it for 5 minutes and only noticed it when it caught a grasshopper.

I’ve seen snakes in the oddest places. Heck, I have a tortoise that can climb a fence.

Regarding killing snakes or anything else for that matter, I saw enough of it in the army. I have an aversion to killing anything these days pretty much except vermin, rabbits, ducks, geese and hogs. Only reason I kill rabbits is because there’s 50 of them in my yard, literally. And they’re tasty.

I used to hunt like a champ. Now that I’m getting old I no longer have the same desires.

Not sure if the one I saw was a smooth or rough. I had one when I was a kid that would eat crickets from my fingers. Had an Alligator lizard that would do the same :)

    hoji, the peacaock avatar.....

I grew up with a neighbor that had peacocks on about 15 acres of hilly creek bottom with a little open valley in the middle. My mom used to get unnerved at their hellacious screeching. I still remember the sight of those birds strutting in the open area in front of the hens.

We’ve killed a rattlesnake, a copperhead, and 2 chicken snakes so far this year.

    Good riddance.

There are a couple of groups that live in our area. A few are bold enough to come up on the porch.

Beautiful birds, cool that they will eat out of your hand.

On a side note, I had roasted peacock hen in Thailand. Tasty, though I haven’t had it since, nor would I eat one again. They’re much more pleasing to the eye than the palate.

    ...

I suspect your friend freaked out, and most likely did what almost 100% of the non snake savvy public do when they have a surprise encounter with a snake. They call it a rattlesnake or a copperhead.

Hell, there is a picture in this thread of a rat snake that is misidentified as a copperhead.
    I saw the picture . Rattlesnake 100%

Just not so pleasing to the ear.

    Truly beautiful creatures, though.

They used to line the banks of Dickinson bayou near Pine Drive. Gators (which were also plentiful along the banks) were know to eat them, though.
