Yep, Dirty's is still going. Haven't been there since the 70's tho.I miss Holiday House hickory burger.
Is Dirty Martin''s still around?
Wow, I hadn't thought about 2J's in years.Yep, Dirty's is still going. Haven't been there since the 70's tho.
I miss 2J's too.
One of the best Drive-In burgers ever, is the #5 from Keller's. Last I saw or heard, only the NW Highway location was still open, with 2nd Ave and Harry Hines being shut down many years ago. Other than friends, that would be about the only thing I miss about living near there.
If I'm in Canton and want a burger, 100% of the time I'll go to the Dairy Palace just south of I-20 on Hwy 19. They have GREAT burgers.
Funny as I ate at the Harry Hines location a few weeks ago. #5, fries, and a Miller Lite.
Since we’re visiting WayBackville here is one to see if you’re real deal old time San Antonio.

What was the grape soda/vanilla ice cream float called?
Bonus point: What was an Ice House?
The original sports bar....
j/k
 I guess I just meant that Jax is more of a sit-down restaurant--like Red Robin. I know I sit down and enjoy my Whataburgers too, but I definitely don't view it as a restaurant.Really? Glad I didn't ask about Red Robin.
Just for the record, I don't like the bread Jax uses. I hate it enough that it spoils the burger for me. As for Red Robin, that's where I go when I want a decent burger these days. That doesn't mean I won't drop into a DQ for a BeltBuster occasionally but I've really cut back on my burger intake. Since I eat fewer of them, I usually go to Red Robin.
Frankly, I can't find a burger I truly like. Lots are edible - DQ, Whataburger, Wendys, et. al. But a really good burger? Ever since Just Burgers closed, I can't find a really good one anywhere close to me.
I've experienced In and Out in California and Las Vegas . . . and tried their menu some of the secret menu stuff. I am impressed with how they treat their employees; however, I am less than impressed with their food. It's ok, but it's not worth the cult love.My favorite fast food burger is In and Out. And, of course, they are a Cali company. But I overlook that for the tastiness. If you like Whataburger just go and eat there. Life is short, and you can't worry about everything.
We still have Ice Houses . . . but it's a different concept in the South than most of the rest of the country. Southland developed their old ice houses into Tote'm, which became 7-Eleven. But most of us just think about an open air bar/restaurant that specializes in the sale of cold beer, as an ice house.Since we’re visiting WayBackville here is one to see if you’re real deal old time San Antonio.
