After reading all these posts, I must say you live in a “war zone.” First off, you better think about the aftermath before you get this sort of gun. Meaning, but first, I can only believe you are early in your career, probably less than 2-years on the job. And you either work for a SO or a very small police department. This is all my opinion after working 30+years in law enforcement.

The department should be issuing you this weapon as they will face a major lawsuit if something was to go wrong with your actions, as well as yourself. And yes, it’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by 5. But also remember, more and more cops are facing criminal charges these days for their actions.

And lastly, remember if you do fire that weapon it’s going to be taken from you for evidence and no telling when, or if you will get it back. So, tell your supervisor to provide you with this weapon.

I just got out of academy. Not allowed to provide creds as my department has a strict social media policy, and not that I would be compelled to anyways by this group... Apparently a man's word is worth nothing here, but that doesn't surprise nor bother me. They all think they're right, so what... Yes, its a small department - PD not SO. We have the nickname "mini chicago." And I keep being told I've already had more experience with these things than most cops after 20 years on the job. And yes, you're right. There is not a single officer who has fired a round that is still employed by this department, and one has faced criminal charges (of which he won). We all know to provide backup but let SO do the shooting if possible. And yes, I would be the only one with a bullpup, but the idea seems positive by most I'm around. All others carry an AR. My chief told me on my first such scene a few days out of academy "this department will either make you or break you. This place is training grounds, but if you try to leave I will grab you by the ear and pull you back."

    Here the thing:
If I do somehow provide proof that would leave me anonymous, then each one of these posters calling me a liar would owe me a beer. No apology needed.

Not sure why this got out of hand anyways... I'm going to say it again. If a call comes in of a person shot, and while in route I get 2 more calls of more victims, then I'm treating it as an active shooter. I have had training in this and my goal is to first stop the killing and then stop the dying. In reality, aside from serving a couple of felony warrants and being involved in a shooting where I didn't fire my weapon, what I've wound up doing upon arrival is securing the crime scene and keeping a log.

    Now,
What about the AUG a3m1 vs x95??? I am talking about the semi auto version of these. I didn't make that clear.

So, @Enochwel , what security company do you work for. Given your posts, I have a suspicion , but I won’t name them.

I will say if you trust the police in that particular agency to have your back by stating you were acting at their direction, I hope you have a good felony lawyer on retainer.
I do. I'm a member of PBA. And its a small pd...

If you are such an operator, WTF are you asking our advice for?????
You are either a liar or the guy the other cops really want to get rid of even if they have risk someone's life.
    I'll choose the first option.

    Enochwel,

I'll simply "ditto" what "dpwcl" said, as I'm a LONG-retired LEO who was once a City Marshal, a Deputy Sheriff in 2 departments & later a federal agent.

At 2 of the smaller departments, I could have carried any weapon that I wanted to but I really see little need for anything more than a 5.56NATO patrol rifle or carbine OR perhaps a pump-rifle or carbine in .30-06.
(I routinely carried a Remington Model 760 pump carbine, with a 10-round magazine in .30-06, when I was a city marshal, primarily because I was also appointed as the county's stock detective & had to occasionally deal with a bull that was destroying property or endangering lives. = A 5.56 rifle/carbine just isn't "enough gun" to STOP a large bull.)

    just my OPINION, satx

    Operator? Lol
    My vest doesn't fit
    My issued weapon is G23
I wear a used uniform i pulled from the floor of a laundry closet
My issued cruiser will be a crown vic with a broken seat belt, a check engine light, and a a non functional speedometer/odometer

    Yea, I'm some operator lol
    Look,
I didn't make this all fantastic and commando like. You guys did. Also, there's no difference between what I'm considering vs a typical AR, except for the overall length from butt to front sight. I am talking about the civilian semi-auto versions of these...

I got a few opinions. Some were I think valuable. Otherwise I think this thread is worthless and dead. The problem with this thread is not me...

Suspecting is one thing, and I understand. Getting carried away is another.

    Steyr AUG A3 M1 or IWI X95?

I'm going back and forth between these two... I've already decided its going to be between either of these. Coolness and nostalgia factors mean absolutely nothing. Gotta be reliable. Cost of upgrading x95 trigger to the gieselle is also not an issue.

So for the purpose of front seat of patrol car, with the assumption of being on scene during an active shooter situation once per week and serving felony warrants/clearing houses, which of these two would you depend on and why?
    Thanks for your input!

You went commando in your first post.
Nope. Its got to be a rifle by ATF standards by overall length and barrel. No sbr. So I want something with a 16 inch barrel and overall length of 28 inches.

    This isn't right either.
If you have "more experience than a 20 year vet", they guys you supposedly work with could advise you better than anyone.
A defective vehicle for such important police work??? Is the PD looking to be sued into oblivion?????

    You are full of it.

Ok... you can either die with the sin of falsely accusing another, or you can figure out a way to buy me a beer, and I don't know how you're going to do that... maybe, rather, it's time for a confession.

You're taking what I've said and making it something else. I was simply showing that my city has some serious issues and validating my need for a quick access 556. Ive not tried to convey that I'm a "top shot operator / Duke Nukem officer." YOU HECKLING HYENAS TOOK WHAT I SAID AND MADE IT THAT, and destroyed this thread ty...

Moderators? I'd close this one down...

Anyone that uses a firearm for any reason no longer works there and you want more guns than they provide?
And the local SO is there to do the shooting if neccessary???
I think you watched enough Rambo for all of us......

If you don't want to state the city - at least give us a general region. As someone who will be settling in Texas soon, I'd really like a heads up on what area to avoid like the plague, or at least know when I need to throw on a set of plates and carry a rifle instead of my pistol... but I'd rather just avoid shitholes like that.

Bunch of Don Lemon's in here. Cherry pick my statements, ignoring the totality of the thread, and you assert you are correct. I'm a firm believer in the power of the truth as it is held by the almighty. You've made false accusations against me when I asked for help out of serious concern for my safety and stability of my family, and thats a sin on you. I'm stepping out as to not further your guilt. I know that sounds weird these days, but I follow christ and the truth and my admonishment to you is be careful when you make accusations online. Its easy to get it wrong and its the same sin.

Again with the "shame of sins"?
Shameing is what people do to look morally superior or to cover their own shameful acts. Whch are you?
I have sins. Not believing you is the least of them.
