I've been wanting to load these bullets for a while but didn't have any empty cases. These are Lee 357 SWCHP Gas Check bullets I had cast a few years ago. They are sized to 358 and lubed with Lee Liquid Alox which makes them look fugly. With the gas check they weigh 150 gr.

I have 1000+ 357 loaded cartridges loaded with very light loads I did for CAS (With 158 gr RNFP bullets) So, I decided to deconstruct some and use the cases for the HP bullets. I used a kinetic bullet puller so I could save the pulled bullets. I backed the sizing die out enough to not touch the primers and loaded 100 of them. I might do more tomorrow.

These are their non-hollowpoint brothers. I use them without gas checks at 38 Special and 38 +p velocities.

That is a very non traditional way of unloading ammunition.

Are you short on primers or powder?
Why didn't you just shoot them?

Short on cases and I had an itch to reload those bullets and I was bored. Also, I don't shoot CAS anymore and don't need any really light loads and I have over 1000 of them. They aren't that much fun to shoot anyway.

Pontificated whether or not I knew where all my reloading stuff went since the big move. Not going closet diving yet but if this shit lasts for a while I might have to reconsider my options.

I think you should reconsider your options. The earlier you find where it is and get it set up the better off you are and we are not listening to you pontificating about why you didn’t locate the stuff sooner..

Well, I’m breaking the “reloading ice”. Ordered a Frankford case deprimer yesterday off Amazon and it arrived today so decided to fool with it. Had half an hour to kill so I opened the package, dinked around a couple minutes getting it right, and deprimed 150 .223 shells. Impressed at how easy and fast it is once it’s set right.

I have a lot of brass to deprime, and then plan to buy a tumbler from Harbor Freight to clean it up.

Yesterday I received in trade from another TGT member a Frankford Arsenal Pile Driver Bullet Puller in the hopes of making the task of deconstructing the cartridges I want to take apart quiciker and easier than using the hammer type bullet puller. At first it didn't seem to make much difference because as it came in the box the bullets and powder are ejected into a small bin the has to be emptied with each round which takes time.

But it comes with an adapter to attach a 5/8' tube where the little collector bin would go. With the tube the bullet and powder go to a container for collection and this does speed things up.

They recommend attaching it to a wall when using it however it's a bit loud (almost like a 22) so I can't use it in the house and the garage is a disaster since my son moved back in a while back. So, I attached it to a piece of 1 X 6 and attach it to a "pillar" thingy on the front porch when in use with some tie down straps which work well. I'll replace the tape at the bottom that's holding the tube straight with something more permanent.

I tried to cast some 45s the other day but my.lead.pot was hardly spitting out any lead and was really only dribbling a little. All my boolits came out looking like rubbish.

Today I emptied the pot out using a blow torch and turning it over to drain out. I was able to scrape a little bit of extra junk out which I'm assuming was leftover junk in my lead. I guess I need to flux better. I was able to poke through the spout and clear the hole out and get it squirting out again. In fact, it's coming out better than before. I had to be real gentle on the handle or it spits lead everywhere. The things never worked this good since it was new.

I cast about 100 or so with it but had to stop to take one of the kids clothes shopping. Gonna try to cast up a few hundred more tonight after the girls go to bed.

Hit the gunshow yesterday and laughed at $30/ 200 primer prices.

Yes, $0.15 per primer of every variety.

    Glad I don't need any.

Guess they are still a good deal since 9mm ammo was $40/ 50 rounds.....
That may be a bargain. With reloaded 9mm going for 59.9 cents per round before shipping on Ammoseek today you can probably reload for say 30 cents a round even with that ridiculous primer price.
