So it appears Assistant Director took gun from cart, gave it to AB, and told him it was a cold gun.

Wouldn't give Baldwin the time of day. Seems that his need to be relevant keeps him 100% PC and obviously unhappy.
But a woman is dead and and another person injured. Baldwin has some responsibility in this tragic event.
He chose to point an item that at the very least was made to look and operate like a period gun. Baldwin pulled the trigger. Baldwin violated the most basic rules of gun safety. Baldwin is known for poor decision making. He will live out his days with the guilt. And he should. And any other legal ramifications of his actions. At least he is not dead.
We had a next door neighbor that worked at a studio. I can remember being in my backyard when over the wall came a 4" X 4" X 8' wooden pole. I had no chance to run away as it hit me in the back. And bounced in the yard. It was made of plastic and very light. He would bring home props and out takes on 16mm film. Lots of cool stuff. His point was always that everything we saw on TV was fake.

    1) the guy is a hypocrite. He spews all sorts of hate towards the 2A and those who embrace it, yet he advertises for guns in his movies. If he were serious in his convictions, he would stick to dramas and musicals. Buy hey, $ ya know...
    2) he has proven now that he is absolutely ignorant about the very fire arms that he opposes. If nothing else, hopefully this will open his eyes to the fact that guns don’t kill people. People kill people. $20 says that his attorney will advise him against this defense, and another $20 says he will listen to his attorney. Alec pulled the trigger and Alec should accept responsibility. I mean, this is no different than if you were at a playground with kids in the area. Would you jump in your car and throw it into reverse without even attempting to know if there was a kid behind your car? This is no different.

The guy is a hateful putz, and I hope he loses his fortune to the victims family and to the lawyers. I have no sympathy for him. I’m sorry for the victims, and I’m sure it’s devastating for their families. I hope they get justice.

    So the working theory is:

An assistant armorer took the gun (45 Colt) off set during a break and shot it with live rounds.

When he returned, gun was not cleared and was placed on a cart with other guns.

An assistant director took the gun off the cart, handed it to Baldwin for a rehearsal, said it was a cold gun and boom.

One thing comes to mind: independent films are generally done on a shoestring budget. If it’s true that IATSE union workers were replaced with non-union workers, all safety protocols the union folks have probably went away unless they were replacing with talent that could command the union membership/pay, so I’m guessing the amateur/B-string got brought in. Recipe for disaster.

Also known as the swiss cheese theory in Human Factors. Once all the holes lined up, there was no stopping the incident. None of that excuses what happened, just goes to possibly explain it.

“They had safety meetings every day but it was a Tier I movie, so they probably didn’t have more than 1 prop person,” the witness added. “Tier 1” means the film has a budget for under $6 million.

I'm gonna 150% disagree with you and suggest that a LOT of gun owners would benefit from some small unit airsoft training - yes, shooting airsoft at each other and being honest about hits.

    Or paintball.
As a kid, we shot BBs at each other. Couldn't afford them as a single Dad with mine so we used nail guns at the cabinet shop. Along with the other guys in the shop. Usually all against me. I didn't lose.

“Who was dumb enough to hand ME a loaded gun?”

That excuse wouldn’t go far for any of us.

Yup. Tought the boys that even if you see me clear and check it, even if I show you it's clear, check it again anyway. If you clear a gun and it leaves your hand even if you don't lose sight of it, re-clear it when you pick it back up.

Then why have real, or even prop guns, with any type ammo? Blue Guns would have been more than enough and safer.

Yup, and even if real gun, no need to pull trigger if no film rolling.

    So many fail points

Did this **** not learn the firearm safety rules when working in the movie industry?!?!??!
Do they NOT teach safety-rules to actors?

    I though it'd be MANDATORY...
You can teach all you want, but some people are never going to learn.
How many ND's a year are there with Police who are highly trained? The problem with humans is that they are human.

    They aren't highly-trained enough, if their g.damned booger-hook is on the bang-switch...
Even my KIDS know this... 1st rule I taught them...
Only took a couple short range-trips.
