There is no evidence the gun wrangler changed.
One thing comes to mind: independent films are generally done on a shoestring budget. If it’s true that IATSE union workers were replaced with non-union workers, all safety protocols the union folks have probably went away unless they were replacing with talent that could command the union membership/pay, so I’m guessing the amateur/B-string got brought in. Recipe for disaster.
Also known as the swiss cheese theory in Human Factors. Once all the holes lined up, there was no stopping the incident. None of that excuses what happened, just goes to possibly explain it.
As a kid, we shot BBs at each other. Couldn't afford them as a single Dad with mine so we used nail guns at the cabinet shop. Along with the other guys in the shop. Usually all against me. I didn't lose.I'm gonna 150% disagree with you and suggest that a LOT of gun owners would benefit from some small unit airsoft training - yes, shooting airsoft at each other and being honest about hits.
Or paintball.
Yup. Tought the boys that even if you see me clear and check it, even if I show you it's clear, check it again anyway. If you clear a gun and it leaves your hand even if you don't lose sight of it, re-clear it when you pick it back up.“Who was dumb enough to hand ME a loaded gun?”
That excuse wouldn’t go far for any of us.

Then why have real, or even prop guns, with any type ammo? Blue Guns would have been more than enough and safer. So now it looks like it was a rehearsal, not a live scene.

…So many fail points
…the swiss cheese theory…
You can teach all you want, but some people are never going to learn.Did this **** not learn the firearm safety rules when working in the movie industry?!?!??!
Do they NOT teach safety-rules to actors?
I though it'd be MANDATORY...
They aren't highly-trained enough, if their g.damned booger-hook is on the bang-switch...You can teach all you want, but some people are never going to learn.
How many ND's a year are there with Police who are highly trained? The problem with humans is that they are human.
