Went to pick up my tags and the salesman said “I can get a drill and mount your tags for you”, I said no thanks!

Ordered this as soon as I left the lot, screws into the tow hook hole and can be put back to stock easily. Mounted a plaque that shows a MOVE where the factory Japanese sized plate would
    Mount.

The only reason any State has this rule is profit. They can justify the cost and "provide jobs" to more people if more plates have to be made. Secondary benefit is the traffic fines.

All licenses of ANY type are only for profit.
The Texas Toll Road Cartel had the law passed so they can see your front and rear plates and bill you for driving on their highway.

Most of my cars don't have a front plate. The only car I've ever been hassled about it is my BMW. What's funny is the car spent the first 10 years of it's life without the front plate and never a peep about it. Only in the last couple of years it's been an issue. Guess it's aged into a bracket for profiling

Of the two tickets I've gotten, I've gotten them reduced to $35.

State Troopers will stop (and possibly cite) you for no front plate, local cops are under pressure to not make stops for license plate violations of any sort because it's 'racist' to enforce those laws - which is why long-expired bogus paper plates are everywhere in Houston.

I'm likely going to get a car in a couple of months with no real solid place for a plate on the front grill. In my town, I have noticed many cars without, maybe 1/2 of the U.S. pickups, most of the European sports cars and SUVs, and all of the Corvettes. Pretty much most of the U.S.sedans and the Hondas/Toyotas/Hyundais wear a front plate.

For those that don't drive with one, any grief as far as tickets, warnings, etc? To me, it's kind of a a silly law, seems Texas is the only southern state that requires one. The people I know in my town that run without, they have never been pulled over ("knock on wood"). Just want to get a feel for it outside of my area.
Not really a subject for whining! The Texas law requiring plates front and back is very clear and lists the acceptable exceptions. Either comply or risk the ticket. Brackets can be made for any rig, I have made them for my 1934 Mercedesreplica for under $5

Drove a Miata for years w/o front plate (dealer never installed the mounting bracket, and I liked it that way). There was a two year period back in the 20-teens when the lege accidentally deleted the fine for no front plate, and wouldn't you know I finally got stopped for something else and the trooper noticed no front plate but did nothing. Then a couple years later, got stopped by a small town cop for no front plate and got a warning. So, I got a bracket and put my front plate on.

Someone else said it ... probable cause for a stop, and I like to avoid those entirely, it never seems to go well with me.. If I get stopped, it will be for mistaken identity or ignorant cop.(which has happened to me both)

Same here. When the plates came in I told the salesman not to drill the holes for the plate on my ND Miata I had.

I don’t even put my registration sticker on the windshield. The only time I got pulled over in that front plate-less sticker-less Miata was for stopping too far forward at a stop light. The cop was very cool and said he saw my registration was valid but I didn’t have the sticker. I told him I forgot and he said to put it on when I get home lol.

I never did and still don’t run a sticker on my current car. It’s been 4 years. I’ll just wait and learn the hard way lol.

Nah, trying to get another ICE vehicle before they or I go bye bye. I don't plan to buy an EV in my lifetime.

Want to get a roadster type. Looking at some used Caymans, S2000s, and a new Miata RF club. All of them look like crap with a front plate, and the guys who own these in my neck of the woods don't seem to drive with one either.

The caymans are sweet but as someone who previously owned a 2018 soft top club my vote is for the Miata all day lol. You can rip it through the gears and be driving the speed limit.

DPS had me put the sticker in the window before leaving after I forgot to put it on the windshield.
