I’ll tell you all this: you think a pitbull is dangerous? Try removing a feral cat from a basement with just your hands.

I bought a Hatsan .22 cal pellet rifle to clean out the ferals that one of my neighbors was hosting... just lines of cats crossing the street all day. And pooping in my wife's flower beds. My Bichon seemed to think that cat shit was some kind of ear adornment and came back into the house to show it off. ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!! Even Biden farts don't smell as bad as cat shit!

Dogs can be born broken. Just like people. If it’s got a brain it can have its wiring wrong.
You seen several times how the wifes dog acted around me. Since the wife has been sick he who feeds, waters & lets out the dog goes a very long way to unbreaking them. He know sleeps in my room, mainly because she does want to listen to him scratching & bitting. I gave him a bath last week and i'm who he seeks out during fireworks.

Possible, but of it's own without human intervention, I'd hazard a guess that is probably the exception rather than the rule. Just like people.

We know there are just plain evil people in this world. Their brains are just wired wrong, but I'd say that they are a rare thing rather than common.
I don’t know rates or if anything is available online but it’s science.

Genetic defects are not isolated to humans and chimps.

No reason to think a dog can’t have mental illness.

Big Head had a sister. I named her Kimber. Yes I doomed her by naming her. Just like her name would suggest she didn’t work right. Born with what appeared to be the lack of emotion and no matter what she would prefer to not want anything to do with people and started showing unwarranted aggression. The wife didn’t understand it but I got to a point I said this dog ain’t right and I’m going to remove the problem. She talked me into the expensive option of getting her fixed and returning her with the understanding of the owner that if she gets adopted it’s a home without a kid.

I have long held the belief that dogs have varied personalities just like people, and that they have emotions like people. So it just seems safe to believe that they too can suffer from mental illness like people.

To add to this, we rescued a chihuahua, and it instantly bonded with my GF.

It didn't like me getting close to her, and would let me know.

Unfortunately it had to be put down shortly after, due to a hip injury.
Haha, those chihuahuas can be little a$$holes. They act like they are invincible. The one SIL had was like that...

My thoughts as well. If they can sulk, get their feelings hurt, be scared and be happy, then it makes sense ...

My very first rescue was an Australian Shepherd I named Bill. Best dog I ever had. I took a lot of bites from him. Truly a fur missile, he could jump into car window moving 30 mph. There was very little you couldn't teach him. He knew the names of several toys, open & close doors & gates, go in the fridge & bring you a beer with out shaking it up.

He got red regular bathes & when I clipped him would roll right & left plus other commands associated with his hair cut. He would wear out 3 teenagers with a frisbee. I could walk him off led, but didn't because of living in the city.
We rescued two Australian Shepherds two years ago. They were 22 months old at the time. PO was elderly and wasn’t able to care for them. Spent most of the time in their kennels. Son convinced him to give them up, so they lived in a foster home in Arkansas for something like 6 or 9 months before we adopted them. They are siblings and the rescue didn’t want to split them up. Luckily we had the history along with paperwork from the breeder who is located in Texas as well as the PO info and a letter from PO asking that they remain together. Darn smart dogs ... when they want to be. I installed a tetherball on one of the trees that they like to chase and hit with their snouts and they like playing fetch too. Wife lovingly calls them our idiots. They are great dogs..

That is true. Any living and breathing creature can have it's own thoughts and instincts. But I'll counter that many here bashing the breeds are operating under an influence of ignorance just like the gun haters and grabbers. And like them, many are putting the blame on the object, rather than where it belongs, the dog's owner.

If there is vicious dog roaming a neighborhood, that dog belongs to someone, or it was dumped out because it was a problem dog.

And the owner doesn't accept the responsibility to keep his dog properly contained, or it became a problem dog because it's previous owner didn't accept the responsibility of properly controlling the dog.

None of these are actual faults of the dog.

That's all true, but also ignores that some breeds are far more vicious than others and deserve their disrepute.

How many other breeds are known for maiming and killing humans? How many other breeds have been known to tear babies to shreds because they were left alone?

Sorry, it still doesn't prove one breed is more vicious than other breeds.

I'm sure if a person spent the time going through data and stories, that they could find more than a few other breeds of dogs that have killed babies.

My brother use to have a Rottweiler he used to "babysit" his daughters when they were in the backyard when they were very young. The only thing in danger of getting torn to shreds was someone coming into that backyard. The dog died of old age, and his daughters are graduating college.

But still doesn't prove or disprove that pit bulls are more "vicious" than any other breed of dog. It still comes down to owner's responsibility with their dog, regardless of the breed.

Wasn’t sure what I had when I picked her up off the side of the highway when she was 4 weeks old. But she’s a lazy brat now.

Some would call her a pit bull. I think there’s some lab in there somewhere.

The Great Pyrenees we had was by far the sweetest dog we have ever had. We have had a lot of dogs.

They were bred as guardian dogs. I have been stood down by them on occasion. Not attacked, but they protect their "herd" as they see fit. My advice is to never provoke one.

They are used as guardian dogs because they can kill a wolf and a mountain lion.

Breeders typically breed dogs to bring out certain traits of dog for a specific purpose. Hunting dogs being one example. But that in itself doesn't or can't guarantee a desired result.

Anyone seriously arguing pit bulls aren't more vicious than other breeds is delusional. We get it. You're a "Pit mommy" who is immune to facts until your dog uses you as prey.

What was the article we were talking about again?

In 2019, pit bulls accounted for 91% of all reported fatal attacks on other animals, 91% of all fatal attacks on other dogs, 76% of all fatal dog attacks on cats, and 82% of all fatal dog attacks on other pets, poultry and hoofed species.

Pit bulls make up 6% of all dogs.

All reported attacks, meaning only attacks reported. As previously stated not all dog attacks are reported.

More often than not people are not quick to report their own dog. Biased statistics at best, people always need someone or something to blame.

Kinda like saying your the smartest dumbass, are you really smart? Maybe statistically but your still a dumbass.

Many could argue that you are naive and ignorant.

In all the years of owning so-called "vicious" dogs, not once have I ever been attacked by one.

You probably think gun control laws stop criminals from getting guns or using them!
