Took me about a year to really get adjusted to red-dots from 20 years of iron-sight handgun shooting.
My eyes aren't nearly as good as 10 years ago...so it's probably dot-shooting for me going forward.

    Helotes!
I'm the odd duck in that I've had a LaserMax guide rod laser on my first XD for about 15+/- years now, and while a cool gadget I didn't find it really helped increase my speed or accuracy when shooting. It's no longer my EDC weapon, but I do remember being amazed at how much that little red booger moved around from any distance more than 10-15 yards!

I see how many manufacturers are producing pistols with red dots or the ability to mount them these days, but I still think it's a range fad and not something which will help much in real world situations.

As stated, there are several issues which may decrease the shooter's ability to quickly put rounds on target!

While I am not ancient as some on here, I am beginning to experience eyesight issues when it comes to shooting. I'm good with the red dot and magnifier on my menacing, threatening and outright danger to society AR pistol; but I doubt I'll be adding one to any of my pistols in the near future. Never say never, but it would take a lot to get me to change tried-and-true tactics at this point. While likely not optimal, it's the muscle memory I've built up over the years; and I think any drastic changes would be more detrimental than anything.

Plus, I'm a fairly shitty shot in the first place, so I don't know how much a red dot is going to improve that! :p:p

Big difference between a laser and a red dot. You would be surprised how much a red dot would improve your marksmanship.

This is looks like a win from Ruger, but they turn it into a fail without adjustability. I guess they just expect everyone to know their Kentucky windage

Yeah, hard pass on that nonsense. I will keep my battery powered, adjustable optics. I like brighter sights than some, I guess. I keep my dot so it stands out in bright daylight - too bright for night? Nope, especially not when the target is illuminated with 800 to 1000 lumens on them, against a light colored background. Non-adjustable? This thing looks like a toy you'd slap on a Nerf gun.

    Ruger knows their market.

A 15 MOA group would be an AWESOME group for the people this is marketed too. That market couldn't adjust a red dot to save their lives because they can't shoot a group.

Do y’all think we are getting to a point where red-dot ready slide cuts will be standard on handguns?

Personally, I have never used a red dot on a handgun, but am starting to get intrigued by them. Right now, all of mt handguns do not have the option but have been looking at Canik, and this does appear to be on all of their firearms.

imo its like rifle barrels coming factory threaded. Should be the norm on every pistol

A lot of manufacturers are doing single footprint cuts - mostly in the subcompact / microcompact guns, to fit the Shield RMSc / Holosun 507K footprint

Then there's aftermarket stuff that comes cut - or Glock clones - PSA's Glock clone comes optic cut for RMR footprint. Sig P320's, IIRC are native for the Delta Point Pro cut (requires a plate for anything else) and of course, most of the optic-ready guns are just cut to use different plates for different sights.

Personally, I wish they'd just pick two damn size standards and stick to them - RMR pattern for duty guns / double stacks, and the RMSc / 507K footprint for the small guns. Direct mounted to the slide is superior to plates. I've had both.

A lot of factory plates are trash, and aftermarket gets superior performance and quality. It just adds $70-100 to the cost of the gun to get a good aftermarket plate, driving the entry costs up even more.

Except in some states threaded barrels are a no go.

I think the point he was making was that optics-ready cuts should be standard on pistols now, because red dots are becoming the primary sighting system for many, especially in the duty or concealed carry realm. Much like optical sights have surpassed iron sights on long guns as the primary sighting system of choice, optical sights on handguns are becoming the norm. I haven't seen many LE officers *not* carrying with a dot lately. Lots of average joe citizens are doing the dot thing.
