Went to the range last Saturday with two pistols with Trijicon RMRs. I really like red dots.

I ran a holosun for awhile on my carry gun and saw the advantages of it when at the range. What I didn’t like was the dot getting washed out in bright sunlight. I’d rather have iron sights on my handgun with a big bright front sight vs a a red dot that might not be visible all the time. Sold the sight and run irons on all my handguns right now. Long guns are a different story have a few equipped with just a simple red dot.

To me the red dot is more accurate then irons. Faster target acquisition and less guessing if sights are aligned.

For me....accurate yes, but faster target acquisition, no. For the life of me I cant' find the dot in under 2-3 seconds. Against an experienced shooter or someone that has a firearm pointed in my direction I wouldn't fare well. I'll keep practicing though.

Do you have co witness on your sights?

So far, red dots on pistols have been range toys for me. I recently purchased a M&P 10mm that I am considering making my "woods" gun. It's got a Holosun sitting up top that is 1/3 co-witnessed with irons. On my other pistols with rds the irons are not visible. I've noticed when I try to align the irons (vs searching for the dot first) the red dot is automatically aligned and then takes over. It feels faster and makes it easier to keep both eyes open superimposing the dot onto the target just like a rds mounted on a rifle. I'm still getting used to it but it is growing on me.

Happened upon the video below. After watching it, it made perfect sense.

Now all I need is a pistol for a red dot.

And a red dot to put on it.

And it wouldn't hurt to have some ammo. to feed it.

And I guess, somewhere to shoot it.
