If you have a my lowes account and the app and have your military discount you'll want to know this.
I was there this morning needing to get the cage unlocked to get a tool.
Girl with pink hair showed up and got the tool out and started in about did I want to build rewards for purchases. She was saying to get signed up for this program and all purchases would build rewards and coupons
I ask her in plain Fing English would this screw with the MyLowes account and my military discount and she said no

    Well..it did..
Ruined my whole morning..spent over an hr at the store trying to undo it and it can't be undone
She tricked me into converting my (do it yourself) DYI My Lowes into a contractor account

Which wipes out your military discount

Figured it out when I got to the register
Well of course she took off and was never seen again
I had the store manager, head cashier, and some dude named Dennis on the line from customer service
Spent well over an hour and it can't be put back.
So I have to re-register for a new my Lowes account under a new email address and then attach my military discount to the new account

The tool I went in for was a Dewalt 20v cordless ratchet for $179 (bare tool)
    I left it sitting there

Drove home ..seeing red..looked at the Home Depot ap and they had one $20 higher than lowes..so F then gay parade sobs also.
Found the exact one on Amazon for $154
    Coming tomorrow

Now I called the store manager on my way home and lit into him real good

I told him I figured his pink hair tool girl must have been getting some kind of bonus for signing up contractor accounts and I hope they were both real happy about ruining my account and wasting my time

It's really my fault...every time and I mean EVERY time I get talked into some offer from a store associate it always turns out to be a bad deal not a good one

This is how American retail is..big box bonanza...so they both lost and Amazon won because they just sold me something without screwing me over in the process

Next time..if I ever go into a store again for something...next time an employee comes up with some great deal I'm gonna have a hard time smiling and just say no.
Because I'm gonna want to throw hands after this morning

Thanks for the warning. My Home Depot gives the discount too, you get a thingy in their app that you scan on checkout if you do self checkout or show ID at cash register. Need to compare prices before you go. My Lowes and Home Depot are across the street from each other.

I've taken the time to set up my discount at both Lowes and HD. More than a year lapsed before going into both, both times my discount couldn't be found. As I was leaving, with the item(s) sitting at the register, I told both of them to not waste my time and if they're going to offer a discount, it shouldn't be so damned difficult.

    Hey V Man,

I avoid the local (Indiana, Pa) Lowe's as much as possible...

    About 1/2 hour drive.

Call on phone. "Do they have X amount of Such & Such?"..

They say, "We have thirteen dozen."

"Good. Be down in 1/2 hour."

    Get there?

Waste 1/2 hour looking for product(s). Waste another 1/2 hour looking for clerk that knows what product looks like. Clerk wastes 1/2 hour looking for product.

Says, "Sir, we have not had that for 6 months." :rocket:

Several years back, the late Bride ordered some larger item from Lowe's /Indiana, Pa. Paid for it in the BLAME store.

Item came in. Lowe's called her. I went to Lowe's, in my truck (8mpg, my choice)...to pick up item. I get to Lowe's. With receipt..(stamped/printed Lowe's Store # blah blah INDIANA, PA) The clerk at the (DIS) Service Desk says that they do not have that item.

Ok. I call the Bride. She was "WTF!??"!! She calls someone.

They tell her..."Oh. We shipped that to the DuBois Store. For $100+ we can ship it to the Indi blame fool ana!"

She told them to MAKE SURE it was on the dock. I got to do the 75+ minute drive from Indiana to DuBois...(Indiana is the OPPOSITE direction of DuBois from our place)

If? There are ANY OTHER OPTIONS? I avoid LOWE'S like the plague...

    Later, Mark

I've only been in a Lowe's store once. Didn't buy anything, just looked around.

I have the Home depot "pro" credit card and get, anywhere from 10 to 30% off
my purchases when I use the card. Last month I spent a tad under $3,000.00 and
received a total of $475.00 discount for the month.

You can frequently avoid the 'in stock' dilemma by checking online. The website will tell you how many they have on hand, and where it's located. Of course, the website in-stock data is only as good as the info that's input, so it's certainly no guarantee.

If Home Depot offers free delivery for the item(s) I want, I frequently order that way. It magically appears on my front porch in a day or two!

Many moons back I had a Home Depot contractor account for remodel business with my brother. Had great service, used their contractor software to pre-order job materials, they had it waiting when they opened. The items they stocked were more geared to construction. Lowes seemed stocked for homeowners, wasn't really setup for contractors as well.
This was back when they were still putting McCoy's, Sutherland, Kilgore, etc. out of business. As a retail customer I find them both frustrating and usually try Fix & Feed or the lumber yard next town over first.

This remodel I'm doing on our house has been a nightmare, shipping delays, stocking issues, damaged deliveries, insane prices. Ordered a bathtub from Home Depot, two and a half months, one wrong hand and four damaged units refused, finally drove over a hundred miles to a store that had one, undamaged per texted pictures and loaded it myself.

    Surely you jest?

    The blame Lowe's here?

The "on line" malarkey vs what they ACTUALLY HAVE on hand? Does not even bear passing resemblance...

The "on line" malarkey suffers a severe case of WISHFUL THINKING!

Now crooked AF lumber? They got that aplenty!

Rewards accounts cost you, they don’t pay you. This goes for store accounts, credit cards, you name it. Back to tools.

For corded stuff I usually buy yellow and cordless is red. Unless I absolutely need it, I don’t buy a tool unless it’s on sale and I get the .mil discount. I also generally avoid tools listed as special purchase packs as most of them include too much crap I won’t use.

Starting next month, I’m going to go thru hand tools to make one big set and weed out the duplicate 10mm deeps, non Craftsman MIA, etc. Moving forward, I’m looking at a couple of hand tool lines to find my next brand to start filling what few gaps I have. Honestly that’s air and metal working tools, mostly.

My next big project is going to be a lot of metal work; rivets galore and building wiring harnesses. That project needs a real shop though.

The Lowes and Home Depot are actually across the street from one another in McKinney. I went with Lowes simply because when I bought my house and needed appliances there was an appliance sale. At one location they didn't have the one I wanted online and directed me to another Mckinney Location The manager helping me there suggested I sign up for a Lowes Credit Card for an additional 10% off (part of the sale) and would also get me 5% off every purchase for having to go to multiple stores. Girl at the register said it doesn't work like that and refused to give me both 10 and 5% discounts. Appliance manager I was talking to said thats how it should work because thats how the promo material says it and already told the customer thats what I'd be getting to sell 4 appliances. He forced the double discount at the register and told off the cashier trying to prevent it. He was true to his word and 'bought' a customer that day.

How much is the military discount anyway?

Somewhat unfortunate; they're building a Home Depot 2 miles from my house now. Given regular homeowner purchases they're all about the same price and probably identical products with different labels, so now I get to drive by 2 Home Depots to get that 5% credit card discount. Oh well.

10%. Primarily I’ll go to HD for a big box home
Improvement store. For some reason, Lowe’s seems to have a better quality paint department though. Especially when it comes to brushes; Lowe’s carries Purdy and keeps them in stock. HD has Wooster, but generally less selection and fewer in stock.

From my experience, all the different Lowes account types have the same 10% discount, and they don't stack. I have the military benefit, my wife has a contractor account, and my daughter gets an employee discount. However, it's 10% no matter which accuse use.

Lowe's and Home Depot used to only give the discount on Veteran's Day. It was always up to the individual location to offer it year round. But that must have changed since adding veteran status to online accounts.
