whats the difference between a P1 and a P38? ( asked in my head)

I have a P38 from 1963 which is the last year they were made according to this guy:

The Walther P38 was in production from 1939 to 1945. In late 1963 the postwar military model P1 was adopted for use by the West German military, identifiable by the P1 stamping on the slide. The postwar pistols, whether marked as P38 or P1, have an aluminum frame rather than the steel frame of the original design. Starting in June 1975, the aluminum frame was reinforced with a hex bolt above the trigger guard, and a slightly modified, stronger slide design was introduced. During the 1990s the German military started replacing the P1 with the P8 pistol and finally phased out the P1 in 2004.

Got this off another TGT’er this morning.

Planning on the Cajun Works SAO conversion, more mags and that’s it. My eyes like the sights already and the black grips are nice.

Go crazy so I can live through you vicariously

If it was a 75 I’d go wild but the fact that it’s discontinued makes me want to make sure everything is reversible…. Otherwise I’d get notice cut and cerakote it something obnoxious like white lol

Now that I think of it, my purchase of a Ruger Mark IV, last weekend, means my new year resolution to not buy any guns this year has fallen through just like almost every other, if not every, new year resolution I have ever made.

Chinese New Year is Feb 10th. Follow their calendar and you are still good. In fact, you still have time for a few more purchases

Except for the stock, it seems okay for some fun days at the range. I noticed it fed, fired, extracted & ejected every time unless I missed a malfunction in that sequence. From what he showed in that video, I have to say it seemed a better shotgun than The Savage Stevens Model 320 Security with pistol grip and barrel shroud. That was, in my opinion, undoubtedly the worst piece of junk for a shotgun that I have ever fired and considered taking down to clean (but field stripping it was a truly major operation so, as I recall, I did not).

Unless, I missed it in the video, the M10 B came out in the 70’s and was pretty radical for the time. Heck, I don’t know if the term “bullpup” was even used back then.

I can’t believe these experts couldn’t figure out that the twirly buttplate was designed so you can rest the gun in the crook of your arm with the twirly against your bicep. Yeah, not so tactical, but neither is a Mossberg Shockwave.

Another radical thing about the gun, it had a 2 D cell flashlight mounted on top. For the 70’s this was very forward thinking! Most of the ones I have seen had the flashlights.

Research indicates it needs to be fired completely dry. The gas piston has a .001“ tolerance fit In the tube. Any bit of liquid will attract dirt and jam it up.

its more of a novelty than it will be an offensive or defensive weapon for me.

Mine is missing the carry handle which I will try and replicate. And I am already working on a flashlight mount using the factory mounts.

Funny enough, Brandon Herrera just did a video on the Savage Hi Standard. I hope you have better luck than he did.

That was my first and last Herrera video. What an idiot.

The gun he borrowed is beat to shit, and missing the butt detent. Looks like he was shooting low brass yet it still functioned. I really question his self proclaimed “weapon design” background based on some of his observations and comments.
