I'm going to be staying there this coming week. Ill open carry my AR as I leave. The sign doesn't apply to rifles does it, that way there is no confusion.

    It's privately owned property.

I disagree but respect their right to choose what does and doesn't happen there.

    I will just not go.

IMO, it is. Until we get a test case I treat it as such.

That said, 30.06 ONLY applies to handguns carried under your CHL. If I am staying at a hotel, I don't possess the handgun the CHL laws. I carry under penal code 46.02, premises under my control.
Just curious: how do you get from the lobby to your room with it? Do the common areas also count as "premises under your control" for that purpose?

Wouldn't you have needed to check in and have a room key first?

    Sent from my Obama phone.

Well, it is legal to carry to and from your vehicle from your home.

I know, not the legal wording.

    Wow this thread is old.

As per today, I still haven't gone to the GWL. No reason to. But...

...Tell me what time, I want to drive over and watch the show. BTW, our PD is good group. So don't hassle them too much.

Even a good group of cops will haul you in for being an ass, can't blame them.

(Not that doing something legal constitutes being an ass, you know what I mean. Don't be an ass, lol.)

Yup, that's why I said don't hassle them. He'll more than likely get contact but they are pretty good guys. They still have the small town mindset, that's the way the city is run from the top down.

GWL will have a lot of vacationers and out of towners at this time of year. It is the height of summer. GWL is also a 'kid/family' aimed hotel/water park resort. You WILL get attention.

Oh hold the phone, "resort" - as I typed that my restricted area alert pinged in my head. Could the GWL ground be classified as an off limits area because it is like an amusement park?

There won't be a show unless he is an attention whore. Nothing illegal is taking place. Perhaps the PD should not hassle him as he is breaking no laws.

    No, it does not meet the definition;

    Penal Code 46.03
    (f) In this section:
    (1) "Amusement park" means a permanent indoor or outdoor facility or park where amusement rides are available for use by the public that is located in a county with a population of more than one million, encompasses at least 75 acres in surface area, is enclosed with access only through controlled entries, is open for operation more than 120 days in each calendar year, and has security guards on the premises at all times. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.
