My family was on WIC for a while and like others have said, it's very particular to what you can buy. I agree that is how it should be set up. Of course we were the type to drop in as soon as we got back on our feet. It was embarrassing to explain I was paying with a WIC card, always felt like everyone was starting at me. Don't think it is a bad thing and having the idea spread that nothing is wrong with depending on it just makes things worse. There SHOULD be a stigma.

The only downside to WIC is that there are still some who will sell the items like food stamps in order to turn the benefits in to cash while their kids go hungry.

EBT and the cash card thing are just plain bullshit.

in most cities, there should be a "WIC" store. here in SA they are the "jc food mart", you go in and its not a market, there is a counter and you hand over your WIC stub, and they start stacking your stuff on the counter. i had wic when my ex was pregnant, i loved the kix cereal. and the government chedder is the best chedder

im sure we all have ebt horror stories.

mine from a few years ago. i worked 3rd shift and stopped at HEB for a 12er of highlife at 7:30am since i just got off work. im behind a lady in the only open checkout line, she has an absolut full cart of food. total comes to $300+ and she swiped her ebt and the total magically drops to like $40. she then pays cash from a stack of hundies from her purse (maybe its payday?). she leaves, i check out and pay my $7.xx for the 12er. on my way to my car i see her loading up her groceries into a brand new Lexus IS250 (this was the year they were introduced). i couldnt believe it, but at the same time, could believe it.

My wife is the Director of a Church School and Day Care and can tell you stories about obvious abuse to the system. Mom and a man, maybe he is even the real daddy but not married live together. She enrolls in all the programs for poor low income families while living with her children and a man with a middle class income.
One mother was upset because her son got finger paint on a shirt she paid $57.00 for, she also pays about $300.00 for human hair extensions plus about $60.00 to have them professionally attached and you know the rest. Government pays for her children's tuition and any other welfare program she can get on as a poor single mother.

Makes me very angry to see people abuse these things. The worst part about it is they are teaching their kids how to grow up and do the same damn thing.

Outside of their very small world, and sometimes not, these folks know deep down they don't matter and aren't worth anything to anyone, even themselves. It's natural for a person in such dire emotional and intellectual stress to live in a delusional state.

But have no worries my friends, as eventually when the house of cards that we know as the U.S. economy falls along with the law and order it provides, these same people will be the first to be culled in their panic and disbelief that the government is no longer there to protect them.
And when the few that do manage to pop their heads out of what once was their ghetto paradise, they will find angry men and women who where true citizens, who paid their share their whole life, protecting what little they have left with a savagery no gang banger has ever known.
Can I get an Amen on that Brother!

WIC is an absolutely wonderful program in my opinion and they do it right with you only being allowed to buy the essentials. We were on it when I was young with two baby sisters and my dad busting his ass is the oilfield to give us a better life, I didn't understand at the time why we couldn't get the "good" cereals etc but grew to love kix because of it. Things turned around for us and my mom got off the program but the amount of help it provided was a god send.

I'm 100% fine with making sure people don't go hungry in America.

Mostly it should be done by local charities or local government, not state or fed though.

Also, this food should consist of milk, bread, beans, cereal, rice, vegetables, not Mt Dew, pizza and chips.

The current system is totally immoral.

lol I mentioned this to a wacko lib the other day, his head exploded when I pointed out that private charity is a far more effective means of helping the poor.

He about died. Then I showed him how much money is given to charity. Then how libs never give money to charity. And well he exploded. Hasn't spoken with me since.

Yep, Libs like to think they hold the moral "Hgh Ground" because they want to give your money away. The myth that Liberals are more generous than Conservatives was exploded in 2008 when Arthur Brooks of Syracuse University published a study showng that Conservatives, despite making 6% less overall than Liberals donated 30% MORE!

Family and I went on WiC for a few months to stay out of debt years ago. We got off the program before we had to as I got just enough to cover bills. It's a ton of paperwork and a good amount of humility going on the program.

The programs are good for some folks.

I think most folks are OK with it if there is a real need. It is the abusers, and their abuser offspring, that most people have a problem with.

I've got a friend who's working on his master's. He went on it. They're giving him 500 bucks a month.
    He's literally 6 months away from a 150k salary.

I harassed him about it. His response was, I'm just recouping some of the taxes I've paid. Before I went back to school I was paying 50 k a year in income taxes.

    Lol

I dont care if someone really needs help for them to use these programs. They aren't intended to be a lifestyle. Some families are been on these programs for several generations, like it is a birthright. Makes me mad then they are buying more expensive stuff than i can afford .
