My family was on WIC for a while and like others have said, it's very particular to what you can buy. I agree that is how it should be set up. Of course we were the type to drop in as soon as we got back on our feet. It was embarrassing to explain I was paying with a WIC card, always felt like everyone was starting at me. Don't think it is a bad thing and having the idea spread that nothing is wrong with depending on it just makes things worse. There SHOULD be a stigma.
The only downside to WIC is that there are still some who will sell the items like food stamps in order to turn the benefits in to cash while their kids go hungry.
