Jackass, you do know NOT to go full auto through your upper, right? That pencil barrel WON'T like that.

I've seen a pencil barrel volt run full auto and get HOT, probably shortened the life a little but still shooting fine.

I don't think he means to, he's just gonna let me shoot his DDM4 in semi. Not sure if the DD even has enough space to fit the sear, might be high shelf. Could take a peek at it for lulz.

Yah the light profile barrel will not react well to heavy sustained firing, even govt profile barrels take a lot of wear and tear in FA. The LMT MK18 upper I bought was highly discounted so I won't worry about burning it up. When the barrel gets shot out I'll prolly just replace the whole thing with a DD MK18 RIS II upper assembly. I'd baby the hell out of that one, they're hella expensive -> $1000. Could get a whole Colt rifle for that much.

Haha no, I don't care to shoot a pencil barrel auto haha. If I wanted to shoot an MG, his short barreled MG is more fun to shoot that way.

Yep. The original M16s were autos with pencil barrels, right?

My spikes had a low shelf, so I'd assume the DD should have one too since its kinda higher end?? Either way I don't want to accelerate wear on my barrel haha.

I recall Scott asking you if he could throw his suppressed noveske upper on your lower, you said something about how it took some tuning with different buffers to get it running right. Ain't worth it haha.

I've had a several Olympic AR-15's and never had ONE problem with them. Maybe it was operator error.....snicker.

You care to wager on whether you can get my Colt or LMT upper to fit on this Olympic lower without hurting yourself? Doesn't even have to be for money. But if you break it you buy it.

Hey grumper, dunno if I asked you this, but tgat drop in stuff should work in an AR10, no?

    sent from Jennifer Lawrence's bedroom

No. The only one it will work in is the Colt SP901. Geometry is all different in the 7.62 ARs.

The only reason it works in the 901 is because it's convertible to 5.56mm too.

The two most important things to be concerned with when building or buying an AR, IMO, are the BCG and the barrel. Be sure they're made of Mil-spec material or better. Also, make sure the feed ramps are properly aligned with the receiver or your gonna have serious FTF issues and scratch a hole in your head wondering why. The rest, IMO, doesn't matter as much.

New member. I'll throw in my 2 cents on DPMS. We used them on security contract in Iraq. On avg 20 percent would go down for one reason or another on range day. Mainly due to firing green tip out of a .223 chamber. But I've seen all sorts of other parts break on them.

For as often as they broke and the minimal cost savings, just wasn't worth it.

What's the experience with ATI? I just picked up a "complete minus lower" kit from cope's with a 1:7 5.56 barrel/chamber and assembled it this weekend on an Anderson lower I had. I'm hoping to get it to the range tomorrow. I bought it to have a "cheapo" AR - all in I'm under $500 on it - that I can take to the range for friends, family, etc.

It joins my New Frontier poly/M&P15 build, my pending custom SBR build (Anderson/Mako/CMMG), and a .458 SOCOM build sometime later this year.

If you're using it for a range gun the lack of reliability shouldn't be anything more than a reoccurring headache.

I've got an extra CMMG LPK just in case. For the folks that would shoot this, pull trigger, go boom, hole in paper in general area pointed will be enough. It'll be a 25 yd queen. I will say that I'm going to have to grind/buff the buffer tube as it extends into the lower just slightly enough to not mate the upper unless I back it out a twist, which leaves the retention pin less supported that designed. Not a huge deal, otherwise the fit is nice and tight.

As with anything you do get what you pay for so you just need to understand what your buying.

    Quality does cost more.
