Ok so I've been looking at it keeps coming up just like owning a handgun must be bought from a non ffl dealer as it's saying that to ammo as well. My question is there a website that is not a ffl that I can order ammo from or anyway to find a place that will sell .45 ammo to me?

The RIGHT way is to order ammo online when you're 21  Or you can find someone over 21 to order for you but that's a straw purchase and I can't recommend you do that, either.

Not looking for a straw purchase either as I know that is not legal. Just wanting to see if maybe there are sites that allow under 21 to buy ammo. But I guess I'll keep trying to see if someone local that is a private seller has any

While it's a Federal law that requires you to be 21 to purchase handgun ammunition, there are no laws on the books that require sellers to verify the age of someone purchasing ammunition. So just keep checking around the 'Net for someone that doesn't check. I'm pretty sure SGAmmo and Palmetto State Armory don't check.

You can buy it if it's for a sub-gun (i.e. pistol-caliber rifle). And no, no one is going to follow up and ask to inspect your rifle.

Talk to your parents about getting you some. Don't think there is anything illegal about them buying you ammo.

(That is if they know you have the handgun :) )

So your advice to him is break the law, knowingly and with intent? Really?

    Stupid law, IMO.

But it doesn't seem to be at the top of the priority list so I doubt it will change any time soon.

That said, I don't know of any law prohibiting the possession of handgun ammo or giving someone under 21 ammo so ask for ammo for your birthday and Christmas.

Does this law apply only to FFLs or everyone selling ammo?

Go to Wal-Mart and if they ID you, tell them it's for a rifle and it's legal for you to own. Otherwise, I will "donate" you some for a re-homing fee.

Wrong answer, if it is for handgun ammo or can be used for a common handgun, the register prompts for an age. Get caught and policy is instant termination. If not prosecutionby atf. Afaik, not illegal to be in possesion, but is to sell it to him if an FFL.

Name a caliber WalMart carries that isn't also chambered in a rifle/carbine variant.

    .38/.357? Rifle, like my lever-action.
9mm/.40 cal/.45 ACP? Rifle, like the AR-15 variants and the Beretta Storm series.
.380? Thompson Contender and Cobray, if I remember correctly.

That said, .223, which is typically thought of as a rifle round can also be used in pistol AR's, which are handguns.

According to ATF, we can't sell a caliber that was designed for a handgun or predominately used in a handgun to someone under 21. I have seen pistols made in .308, but designed as a rifle round.

    Here is the actual law:

    18/44/922
(b)It shall be unlawful for any licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to sell or deliver—
    (1) any firearm or ammunition to any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less than eighteen years of age, and, if the firearm, or ammunition is other than a shotgun or rifle, or ammunition for a shotgun or rifle, to any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less than twenty-one years of age;"
