I say that because, isn't this just the latest in a string of Constables getting into some sort of trouble, and the D.P.S. or Rangers have become involved in some sort of investigation.

Could be my memory is playing tricks, though.

Seems so. Maybe if they’d just stick to serving warrants and subpoenas as well as bailiff duties instead of trying to be a private LE fieifdom, they’d probably avoid these kinds of messes.

Constables in Texas have way to much power. Actually, correction, they have little actual power but try to take way more that they have.
Out in the country, the constable is often our first responder... If they are good people, that's OK. Mine is a good guy, and I have his mobile number. Sheriff's deputies are much further away in my county; I sure wouldn't call 911 first! Calling either one would probably be after the fact in a real emergency...

    I don’t understand and the difference between a Sheriff/Deputies and a Constable/Deputies...?

They’re basically both LEO’s at the county level, no?

Constables are full LEOs, and have additional training and authority in regards to the service of civil process. They are county employees. Constables are elected for and serve in the JP precincts They were created to serve civil process and bailiff the JP courts. They can; however, perform an LE function.

I have seen them with traffic units, SWAT teams, drug dogs and drug interdiction units, etc.

And anyone can arrest the Sheriff, even all of you
