Yup, that's a big one for me.

Go shoot, head to the shack and kick back for a bit.

    Get up and try again.

Head back home in the afternoon.

I keep imagining a steak and baked potato in there somewhere.

    That's extra.

Well, I think I'm in for at least one trip a year, maybe two if I can stash enough ammo and get the time off.

Looking forward to updates on if it does/doesn't happen and progress.

I'll take all the advice given. Some with a grain of salt. heh
Honestly, I'd like to see a barn sized steel plate at 1000yds. I know it may not be feasible, but it is what it is.

I would also like to see targets at shorter ranges on the same bench. Just a few, maybe 300, 500, and 800 or something like that.

Prone should be an option as well as a good bench. Cover is a big plus.

Just for an idea, I have only really shot long range at Hicksville. The layout sucked. Prone would have been impossible if I didn't have a flatbed on my truck. The grass and hilly area blocked all view from the ground. The bench was good for nothing but firewood.

The targets and berms were small. Walking rounds in and fine tuning was a guessing game. You had almost no feedback from a miss.

I am a self admitted rookie in the long range game so I don't know how other ranges are set up. I just know the long range at Hicksville was an afterthought and severely lacking. But it was fun and relaxed. That made it worth the trip.

And the 400 yard target color matched the berm perfectly. That one was a booger.

But yea, plates were backed by......steel plates. No feedback for a miss.

I prefer prone, but understand that certain terrain features can't be helped.

I'll try to feedback on most comments.

    Barn sized steel.
Not impossible. It would be 14ga and very penetrable, but it's stacked on site, in sheets.

Robert. You know I'm full of shit on the mesquite. I couldn't cut and burn that much in a lifetime.

    Prone shooting.
The direction and layout we are considering would lend itself to prone readily.

    Covered position.
By all means. It is Texas!

    Varying distances.
Absolutely. If you aint twisting turrets, you ain't getting your money's worth!
