I picked up a few rounds at the range someone had a bad fireing pin or head spacing and the primers were barely touched. Size wise it mimics the 6.5 Grendel. Cool looking little cartridge but I have no interest for it.

There are others that meet those requirements including the 223 Remington.

.223 Remington will not do it under normal conditions.

Sure, some go all out to build a rifle that will do it. But it’s far from the norm and exceptions don’t make the rule.

I've got my .224 Valkyrie built. Just need to get to the range and test it. I have a barrel with a long freebore. So I may need to use a windowed mag to get the kind of accuracy I desire. I'd suggest shopping for a barrel that will fire the bullets you want to shoot and make sure the barrel is up to the task. Many Valkyrie barrels aren't. And that's especially true if using manufactured ammo instead of reloading. The .224 Valkyrie is a cartridge that is continuing to evolve.
Did you go with an ARP barrel?

EDIT: Just saw your later post w/22" ARP barrel. Good luck with it!

    I can agree with that.

Some of the other AR offerings get to 1000 yards easily and don't sacrifice recoil to do it.

If your requirements are 1000 yards, a .224 bullet only, and a readily available rifle/ upper then you are pretty limited.

Or maybe just to have a rifle that shoots like a .223 but can still consistently get to 1000+ yards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Yep. And with less recoil.

But it's got it's growing pains. It will work out in the long run. Sitting on the sidelines while the issues are worked out is probably a wise decision.

I think it is. Cheapest Aero rail I could find. Nice fat rail for a large adjustable Odin gas block. The billet lower is a blem "Don't Tread on Me" lower made by Runner Runner Guns in McKinney which I pick up cheap several years ago. Aero charging handle. Not sure who made the upper receiver. But it's a billet upper.

Also has a slick bolt carrier....

I meant the hand guard, but on closer inspection I can see it's not. The Aero Atlas S is fitted to the upper to where you only needs one threaded area. the rail on the upper and at the end of the hand guard looks about the same as on mine.

I have a .224 Valkyrie project I need to finish . BHW/Columbia Arms had a Barrel on sale for $80.00. that is the reason I am building an upper. Otherwise, I wouldn't have built it. How can you say no to a price like that?

OK did some research.... maybe I'll go the 6.5 Grendel route.

Give it some time. It will eventually work out. The long free bore due to the reamer screw up only became known over the summer. The Valkyrie is the better option IMO. Stronger bolts, less chance of breakage, plentiful brass and the heavies beat the Grendel at distance. Just make sure you buy a SAAMI spec barrel.
