The John Wayne behavior referred to is on the part of the attacking LEO's who callously disregard facts, fail to double check their data and later sweep their F ups under the rug.

The prison units have an assignment that is the absolute shits. On our unit it was picket #4. It was way the Hell out to the far reaches of the prison property, had NO contact with anyone and was absolutely the worst duty anywhere! Every company has a Picket #4 and THAT is where these officers need to be assigned while they ponder what they did wrong! Picket #4 is where the F ups go!

It's going to take a few of them getting killed executing no-knock warrantless searches before they're forced to abide by the constitution again.

They will not see it that way and believe more force is the answer, so the opposite of what you propose will happen. Remember those that give them the power also rely on their 'expertise' when making decisions to expand or reign in that power.

IMHO there needs to be a completely separate entity that is not made up of current or former LEO, or reports to city management, that reviews cases like this and has the power to prosecute crimes that are perpetrated against innocent citizens, police corruption, etc. When supervisors and officers start going to jail, and judges removed from the bench, for stunts like this, maybe they will wake up and check the information again to make sure what they are doing is legal, correct, right, and benefits society.

Why aren't the people in authority who sign off on these warrantless searches that go wrong immediately forced to hand in their badge and kicked off the force?

Well part of the problem is critics who don't bother to understand the issues. In this case the warrant issue is separate from the fact that they were at the wrong location. Whomever was responsible for deciding to go into action without verifying the info should certainly face discipline. That being said law enforcement is not like working for a utility company and pretending it is just misses the point.

I just don't understand how they can do this sort of thing with or without a warrant strictly on someone's claim of a law being broken.

    Sent from an undisclosed location.

Pointing out that law enforcement isn't the same as working for a utility is specious argument for not doing the most basic leg work prior to kicking in some innocent persons door: i.e. getting the address right.

Major Kong, "I just don't understand how they can do this sort of thing with or without a warrant strictly on someone's claim of a law being broken."

^^^If this was the only reason for their action then it should never have happened. As with so many stories though, I seriously doubt that we are getting the entire story, at least I hope that's true.

Since the focus of all the stories I've seen are the people who were mistakenly arrested/detained I don't see how there is anyway to judge the merits of the warrantless arrest of the true target. Mind you I think there needs to be a pretty high bar set for such a thing and even if the cops were well within reason for doing a warrantless arrest you still have the issue of them screwing the pooch by going to the wrong house.

Good thing I didn't make that argument. I was just pointing out that it wasn't a good comparison.

Just so the LEO members of TGT don't think it's all about hating law enforcement, there are a few who don't have their heads up their asses regarding the Constitution: Gun control measures met with defiance from law enforcement officers | Fox News

Just a quick note to say this will bust the bubble of the "militia group think" and their anti-police rhetoric on this site.

By the way, most of the LE community nationwide supports the 2nd amendment. Not just a few buckwheat.

But to hell with the 4th and 5th amendments.

This article is about Sherriff Richard Mack, a known supporter of the Bill of Rights. Show me a prominent police Chief that publically condemns this behavior and I'll start to listen.

I'd give LEO about one week before they are completely wiped out in a mass armed conflict with citizens.
But such conjectures fosters the us vs. them mentality. This is what Obama, the socialists, and trolls want.
