I don't think the decedent was armed. He had pepper spray, but no reports of him having a gun. He attempted to use the pepper spray against his attackers - but probably didn't expect them to pull out a Glock and shoot him. ANTIFA until recently as stuck to mostly using improvised melee weapons - sticks, chains, various throwables - they're escalating their tactics and employing firearms. The war is heating up.

The above explains why he wasn't armed - seems he couldn't legally be armed since he himself ate a felon-in-possession charge for smuggling a concealed firearm into federal property. We can argue the merits of that shit - both felons being barred from possessing a firearm after they've finished their sentence and about federal property being off limits (the plaza in question in the article is an open-air plaza in downtown Portland and named for a shitbird far lefty retired DA) - but homeboy was apparently a convict who couldn't 'legally' be possession, so he couldn't be armed. Oregon does not prohibit convicts from carrying pepper spray or bear spray, or most knives. Oregon also does not prohibit convicts from owning black powder arms.
