So you believe that every LEO that goes into becoming one believing that?Law enforcement doesn't protect the public. They enforce law. If you're not the one getting arrested. There's a perception of protection.
Absolutely no duty involved.
And it's a sad thing too. The public has so many laws that hurt us in order to protect ourselfs and train ourselfs. What we can have, when we can do it, what we can use, that's not ok blah blah blah. It's all micromanaged laws. If police have this attitude, we are already in dangerous territory. If police don't want to help protect myself or my property, then don't tell me how I'm wrong in doing it myself. Lol.Law enforcement doesn't protect the public. They enforce law. I'm not saying that all LEO's follow that, but I believe your view is a bit skewed. Certainly they are there to uphold the law, but handing out traffic tickets and looking for bad guys isn't all they do.From the clinical standpoint. Police evolved from industrial security guards.
From my perspective being in the car. You may start police thinking you protect something. Then that idea is dashed. You enforce law. You do it without bias or feelings. Cops can't be sued because you got shot, cut, kicked, or beat.
I think that's a shame. You can still be on guard with a smile. You can still go from talking to a rear naked choke with a smile. Lol. I don't see the issue. My FTO chewed my butt because I waved at somebody.
I feel sorry for you then.

If that's your main reason for being cop, that's a pity.I maintained society order. It's me that allows you teachers to arrive at work by not speeding. It's me that makes sure you paid the taxes on your ride. That you ain't drunk or stole something.
When you get off work. Ill still be there making sure you don't speed. Holidays too.
Don't hate me because I'm tax funded awesomeness.
You're a guard then? And what you just said sounds like protection.Main reason. Honor in myself and the world around me. I kept the super predators off your back. I've given CPR to an inmate that hung himself. I've dealt with the trash so you didn't have to.
You may call me Hero. Mr Teach.

Agreed. And this is one step closer to what Obama wanted to do; make state and local police part of the federal government. I have seen countries where the police are handled on a federal level. It is not a good thing.https://www.buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/this-new-bill-in-congress-would-imprison-people-for-10
I'm opposed to this for a variety of reasons. We don't need more federal laws, state laws are sufficient to deal with this issue (and they already do for the most part). This also seems like another major abuse of the interstate commerce clause, and IMO could potentially violate a person's natural right to self defense in some situations.
There have been cases where police have made up an assault allegation (Olmos Park, TX for example) if the Feds get involved in this that would be another layer of government an individual would have to defend themselves from legally.
