    From WebMD site:
The number of people who die each year from flu-related causes in the U.S. is 8,200 to 20,000.

Nearly 40,000 from car wrecks (yet we all still drive).

    CV at ~2800 (source: Fox).

Can we get a little perspective here??
What sucks is we will never know the difference in numbers from what we are going through now compared to if we did nothing.

These are the numbers that I'd like to know.

Also the number of people getting turned away that are "possibly" infected.
As long as possible and probable infected are among the general population, they will infect others. At some point they have to get supplies.
But we also have to know 2 things and to have a quick, reliable and plentiful way to diagnose.
At what point is someone infectious and at what point are the no longer infectious? If it can spontaneously re-infect a person, are they still infectious?
Without that info, anything is a crap shoot.

Do you think the actions taken will in the long run actually reduce the number of cases, or just spread them out over time?

Info passed on should come directly from the mouths of the officials i.e. scientists running the show based on their full knowledge of the totality of the info.
You do realize the decision makers aren’t the scientists, they’re politicians. In every single country in the world.

Also, there are plenty of scientists ’round the world who let critical thinking get corrupted by biases. Point: Dr Anthony Fauci, informed by his education and a career in infectious disease is willing to predict a ‘death toll’, without giving a timeframe or knowledge of what the entire symptomatic and asymptomatic populations really are.

In fact, outside of one village of approximately 3300 residents in Italy, there is no reliable data that is relevant to a localized population. That village tested 100% of its population and found 3% (89) of the residents tested positive. Zero residents died due to their infection or complications related to the infection, despite data scientists accurately reporting up to 10% of the national population succumbing.

Critical thinking isn’t limited to scientists. And not all scientists are critical thinkers.

That comment was in reference to HKShooter who said.

    .....
Fortunately if you get COVID you will, in all likelyhood, get better if you rub peanut butter on your butt.
    ...Out.
    HKS

And after learning of this new peanut butter cure, the run on toilet paper is starting to make more sense.

    (This was a joke too)

I think the reason we don't have perspective is because half the world is being told to shelter in place due to the Chinese/Mexican beer flu.

Understanding this thing might help clue us in on when our lives (and retirement accounts) get back to some semblance of normal.

Yes, sure. Did the annual flu hospitalizations and die-offs that stressed the healthcare system to capacity kindly stop to make room for the CV cases? Or are those in addition?

The stressed to capacity healthcare system is only in a very few, densely populated parts of the country. Dallas county is leading Texas with a bit over 500 cases currently, most of which are not in the hospital. Do you really believe all Dallas County hospitals are over stressed currently after all elective surgeries and procedures have been postponed?
