Compared to PA, which has free ranges and many game lands, I have had a challenge finding a place to shoot. I HATE crowds and the ranges I have been to here were crowded even on a week day morning. I will be surprised if you find something in Azle unless you befriend a landowner. There are some options in Weatherford and Parker County Sportsmen is one I think you were talking about. I didn't know the shooting and hunting situation or we definitely would have bought a different house than we did as we only have 2 acres. I love it here, so I don't mean to sound like I am complaining. I was just surprised. It has been just under 2 years here but I usually look a couple of times a week at realtor sites for places with more land we can afford lol.
Yep I know. Back in 2016 when our realtor kept bragging how fast this area is growing I was too obsessed with the details of moving and with my new job to realize that meant crowds LOL. But in all seriousness it is my fault for not researching the shooting and hunting situation before hand. I thought in a huge gun friendly state it would be a non-issue. That is all on me and why I say I am not complaining. I accept it is on me for being under prepared.Texas and the DFW area are really booming right now. So the price of land is just going to go up, gun ranges will get more and more crowded, and the few private, members-only ranges will get more and more expensive with longer and longer wait lists. Just the way it is right now.
The flip side of the coin is PROPERTY RIGHTS. How many times have you read about some property owner told he can't build a structure or dig a pond because of some state or federal ordinance? (endangered species?) Shoot on your own property????? You can't do that because!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It CUTS both ways and if you own property outside of some 'controlling' district, you have FREEDOM!!!
Some states have property owned by the federal gov't. WTF???
The ONLY property that the FED should OWN is Washington D.C.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the FED wants to build some airforce base, bombing range or wilderness area, it should LEASE the land from the State!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (100 year lease or something)
I think the FED should be subordinate to States Rights. Article V.
Just sayin

We moved from Pittsburgh PA to Springtown (not far from Azle) I January 2017. We had the same experiences, many houses sold while we were looking at them. Springtown is expanding too fast and I want to move already. We only have 2 acres so no shooting here, that's a bummer. My commute into DFW airport is anywhere from 48 minutes to an hour and a half. I thought Pittsburgh tunnel traffic was bad haha.
But anyway, a late welcome to Texas.
They say they are with us, but they are bringing their failed liberal beliefs with them.
