I'm supposed to introduce myself, am told. I'm not much on social media since BBS days, but will give it a try.
Here is my "first" pellet gun. When i was a kid, we used to have bb gun fights in cornfields / barn haylofts, but I was limited to only one pump as most had Red Ryders. Nobody ever put their "eye out", but for luck. My firearm safety awareness has improved a bit since those days.
Boy Scouts is where I fell in love with the .22- I would have done that all day if they let me. My dad gave me a .22 Colteer and I slayed many a soup can with it. Simpler times, for sure.
There have been a few other firearms since then...but you never forget your first. Fan of CZ stuff- Shadow 2 has permanent spot in range bag.
When I was in college in Tucson during mi 80's, I got a job at Oshman's Sporting Goods working the gun counter. Ruger mini 14 Ranch was a big seller.
I've had all sorts of jobs- from washing garbage trucks, dishwasher, CNC operator, Stock Exchange trading floor, mechanic, HVAC, construction, anything computers. I think my next one may be gunsmith, if I find a good spot as I really enjoy slicking the mechanism component. I am getting into the Black Powder revolvers from Italy past few years- I lean towards 'heavy' lately and away from striker stuff. Never have shot a Glock. Someday?
I was involved in Army surplus for awhile- had a bunch of military vehicles I restored- made some good friends with that crowd. We'd take the old vets and had them ride with us in parades, welcome home escorts, etc. Went old-school on this cargo paint job for fun. Wife got tired of living on our own private military base- Google Earth shot of my yard sure was a sight to see. Been downsizing since then with some more to go.
There is one group I'd like to plug that is sorely lacking in Texas: Project Appleseed They have weekend matches all over the Country at public ranges or even private property (hint): They promote civic responsibility through the teaching of colonial history and the American tradition of rifle marksmanship. Big on safety and proper sling usage. Great intro to shooting for new/ youth shooters. Most run a 10/22 for these meets. Fabulous group.
I have relative going into surgery now so may not reply until later tonight. I look forward to getting to some meet-ups to swap stories in person.
