When your religion is football, you have no choice but to build expensive temples. Now, having a government entity building those temples is another thing, I suppose.Midway ISD has an indoor football practice facility.

Plenty of schemes have been floated to replace all taxes with a sales tax. It certainly could be done.Any ideas to get rid of it?
...
I'd rather pay a sales tax, which I can avoid by not buying stuff,
You could serve a couple of years if your young enough. Tax exemptions on the property you reside if your a Texan that is. Also based on disability rating. Go in break a leg for ole uncle sam and be permanently disabled to get a tax exemption.
Eta: Sacrcasm obviously
Prove it... and they don't do their jobs anywayAnd then schools shut down.
I don't have to prove it. Any blithering idiot knows that if schools have an empty bank account they will shut down. They have teachers to pay, bills to pay, etc. See how long your company stays open with no income. Can't believe anyone would even say such a thing.Prove it... and they don't do their jobs anyway

That would be outstanding. Most people couldn't tolerate having the true tax rate shoved in their faces like that.
Our overall, annual tax liability in TX is $20k less than it was in CA.
Eff that state.

I don't think it ever would be done, because that would quickly bring back the barter system which is obviously very tough for the government to enforce tax collection. Heck I bet most people don't even know our tax laws include collecting tax on bartering.Plenty of schemes have been floated to replace all taxes with a sales tax. It certainly could be done.
The best estimates I've seen conclude that the tax rate would exceed 30 percent and probably be very close to 40 percent. And rates that low could only be achieved if there were no exemptions; the tax would apply to services, large purchases like homes, raw material for manufacturing, etc.

Probably so.Road Mileage tax is coming.
High mileage hybrid vehicles will cause it.
Big .gov is getting antsy about the drop in gasoline tax revenue.
Any smoothbrain dimwit knows there are schools that are directly funded by parents, philanthropists, and other organizations like churches. There's also curriculums that are designed to be instructed by parents, and even schools that are totally free that can be accessed from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.Any blithering idiot knows that if schools have an empty bank account they will shut down. WRONG See your property on the Court House steps being bought by developers and county judge. If enough people just stop paying it they can't do anything about it.
WRONGER Y'all seem to miss the "enough people" part of the statement. There's no way they can process millions of sales and more importantly enforce the evictions.WRONG See your property on the Court House steps being bought by developers and county judge.
All taxes distort markets. The question is always "Is this the distortion we want?"The sales tax thing...leads to its own set of weirdness concerning consumerism.
Then we can each choose a different creative option for school instead of mainstream! My family didn’t benefit from any (school directed) funds raised from taxes, and we are both working stiffs. School-coops are a thing, and they could easily flourish with more folks participating. And then schools shut down.
Mileage tax is fine by me.
Those who use the roads pay can for them.
IF, and only if, they do away with the taxes paid at the pump.
Which we know they will never do.
