They have DVDs in paper jackets.
Almost all are either public domain or pirated. Yes, the cartoons available there are sometimes a gem, seemingly available nowhere else. However, I've decided after many experiments to never buy DVDs in those places again. The quality of the transfers is so uniformly bad that even if it's content I want the experience of watching it is ruined.

I've never bought from street vendors but I have, on many occasions, found that the DVDs from dollar stores and in the giant bins at supermarkets were literally those pirated things you expect from street vendors - someone takes a camcorder into the theater and shoots video of the screen, complete with silhouettes of people getting to and from their seats, etc.

    Yuck.

Also a place for sketchy food.
We need an ultra-like button for that post.

I once worked across the street from a dollar store and money was tight. I decided I could get lunch for two days for $2 by buying a loaf of bread and a package of bologna. Pro-tip - never eat bologna that's slimy out of the package.

My $2 bought me two sick days.

    Out here by the lake!
It's been a good 30 years ago, that the wife & I would go to Rice media Center for entertainment. One show was all about banned cartoons. The ones that I still don't understand them banning were the ones that were WWII related for being racist. Portraying Nazis & Japanese soldiers i a racist manner still does not compare to the atrocities they both committed.

    Yuck.

There's a guy that comes around to visit the neighbor and sells him movies. They're all pirated.

Now, they've diversified. Besides selling DVDs. They'll sell you wide open 'TV Box'. The steaming boxes like ROKU but a way cheaper brand bought in bulk. Completely open. You can watch everything. Purchasing one in the 7/11 parking lot is as common as buying beer there.

    They've evolved with the technology.

And I agree. The pirated stuff is trash but dang if people don't buy them.

Interestingly, if youngsters today are introduced to the old classics (e.g., 50's and 60's cartoons), they just love them. They will watch the oldies before anything else.

I guess we didn't watch the same cartoons! 1'm 59 years old. Nothing I hate worse then the crap the wife has on the idiot box in the morning. Cartoons of my youth would beat Face the Nation or any of the other propaganda on Saturday & Sunday mornings.
I watched Tom & Jerry, Roadrunner. Bugs Bunny, Foghorn. I say..Foghorn Leghorn, and all those but not since I was a kid

You missed out on a lot of good ones like Krazy Kat, Felix the Cat, Heckle & Jeckle, Mighty Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, Crazy Cat & Ignios.

The old Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies were as much adult cartoons as for kids.

Then why aint the politically incorrect cartoons of my youth not on TV Saturday & Sunday mornings? Eating my breakfast in front of the computer as I search the classic cartoons has a porn like feel to it!
That was a great time for cartoons. There are some good ones out this day in age... just gotta scan them out.

I remember getting up and fixing 2 bowls of cereal when Mom&Dad slept in from a late Fri night. Winter was the best when I got old enough to start a fire on the old wood burning stove. Damn... memories flooding my mind now....
