If anyone has a 10mm Glock or 1911 they'd like to take to the meetup we can see how i feel about the recoil. I'm one of the smaller members and can probably speak to whether or not I would feel comfortable shooting it in a defense situation.
    You will be disappointed.

I had a 10mm and was hoping for Magnum recoil but it just wasn't there even with my handloads at full power.

It is just a baby step above normal handgun rounds.

I have been shot twice. First time from a .22 rifle into my ankle. Hurt like a SOB. And, it seriously tore my ankle up big time. Second time from a Glock 26 into my left thigh. I felt no pain, but I think I was in shock. Doctor said it missed the main artery by the width of a sewing needle. He also said I would have bled out pretty much, right where it happend.

Get you one of these & learn to carry it as religiously as you do your pocket knife.

    yep

.357sig is actually more fun to shoot. It has the same recoil as a .40 or very hot 9mm, but you get the muzzle flash and noise of a larger caliber.

Magnum Research BFR in 45-70 Govt. or 30-30 may be too tame, but worth looking into.....at about 1k still reasonable, imho....

    9mm, 40, 45, 38 Special. The non-Magnum stuff.

I was really hoping the 10mm was a boomer but it is not. Guess I fell for the hype and was let down.

10mm is a step up from all of those. Basically the 10mm is a .357 Mag in a semi auto handgun.

Perhaps the problem is you were shooting some of the factory stuff that's the same as .40 Short and Weak.

At one point I had handguns in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Eventually I realized there was just no point in having a .40 S&W anymore. Kept 9mm for it’s usefulness and the .45 because it’s an antique model shooting an outdated cartridge. Same reason I have a BP pistol.

Exactly the rational I have. I used to be all .40, now I'm down to only a handful of .40's and I'd have sold 3 more of them if they weren't 80% Polys that I built. I could re-sell the slides on ebay and finis my move to 9mm.

If you're dying to move to .40 I have some guns to sell LOL.

Again that doesn't mean much. There's a lot of data out there that's pretty watered down. The correct charge of Blue Dot will wake ya up.

Agreed, but I'm fairly certain that he knows what he's talking about.

Personally I "feel" more recoil from a 10mm than a .357mag, but it's all subjective.

I have all 3 from the OP's post. I prefer the 9 and 40 for capacity in the hand gun. For SHTF scenario-ammo availability goes to the 9 hands down. My fav is the 40 but I am pretty comfortable shooting all 3 with same accuracy levels. Practice and being familiar with your hand gun is more important than the cartridge IMO. For a wheel gun the Ruger GP100 .357 mag is my go to.

I've never understood .40S&W. Seems like an "administrative round" to me.

If you want a .40, buy a 10mm. If you want a weak 10mm, download it or buy downloaded ammo.

With modern loads, the 9mm is fine. If you need more power, use the .45acp.

The .357 Sig (parent cartridge, .40S&W) is an interesting round and, truthfully, makes much more sense for an "administrative round" than the .40.

    Regards,
    Josh
