And I am old and irked by people ignorant of history who try to impress others with their "superior" knowledge (e.g., by being "magazine" snobs).
Gen. George S. Patton (who was quite knowledgeable in firearms - for those who are also ignorant about his life and career) wrote of GI's inserting clips into their 1911's. WW2 and Korea vets talked about clips for their 1911's. Your attitude insults these vets. Just because over time people chose to discard part of the definition does not mean that those who use the term clips are wrong. It must means you are ignorant of history.
Maybe you would prefer Websters, if Patton and other soldiers who served aren't good enough for you:
clip
noun
Definition of clip
1 :any of various devices that grip, clasp, or hook
2 :a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles; also :a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm
It's only insulting to those who are insulted by facts.
Historically, people that comets and meteors were signs of angry gods. Doesn't mean they were right and we shouldn't accept such nonsense for fear of hurt feelings.
