When I shoot guns with a safety I always have the opposite of a ND. I'll pull the trigger and nothing happens. Main reason why I dislike safeties.

I'm OCD when I check the chamber though. I've had a few people ask me, "how many times you gonna check that thing?" My answer: Enough.

    I’m with you.
I always check the chamber, even if the person handing it to me just did.

Totally forgot that I had an ND when I was around 10 years old.

I was shooting my Daisy Red Ryder in the backyard.
Thought I’d be cool and twirl the rifle around my finger.
Shot myself in the cheek, nearly got my eye.

Never had an ND after that.

Checking the chamber after a gun is handed off to you is just keeping up with good habits and muscle memory. I do this at every gun store I have ever been. Employees check, hand me gun, I check and then do my thing. Muscle memory is a real thing. I can have a long day with no sleep and be on autopilot. Lol it’s like a 4473. It’s like my hand just starts writing. Though when I moved to Texas I had to slow down at address due to having my old house in Oregon for 10 years.

How many of you will check, cycle the action, and check again? Just in case some round magically appears without even having ammo nearby (like when cleaning, etc.)?

    Guilty. ;)

Shit, "when cleaning". Gun cleaning session at the table, my wife hands me her Glock 42 saying she can't get it back together, and without thinking about it too much I go ahead and start taking it apart to start from scratch.
    Well there went the window.

    I'm confused.
Your wife can't get her gun "back together", so you take it apart?

I had a buddy who liked to dry fire his 1911 all the time. One night I was at his house and he went to dry fire it and BANG!!!! I literally loooked like the the kid on the front of the home alone movie with my hands over my head. I ran out of the room and told him “tell your dad something fell”. Looking back we were both young idiots. He’s a police officer now and his nickname on everything on the internet or gaming systems is “negligentdischarge” lol
