I just got a new AR15 and before I put any rounds through it I wanted to get opinions on the break in process and if there is a certain ammo that people prefer to run. I'm new to this stuff so I don't know what's bad, good, and better? I've seen steel casing and brass casing but I don't know what is good. Any info is appreciated! Thanks

Well what I meant was is there a preferred ammo, I don't want to run crappy ammo through my new rifle

There exists somewhere on them internets a throat and barrel erosion study where they shot lots of different ammo then cut the barrels lengthwise to revel the damage if any.

I seem to recall that much of the cheap/imported ammo did indeed do more damage but you'd have saved enough money in the end to buy a new barrel.

The only thing that I'm aware of is your barrel's twist rate and projectile weight. Lots of info on that in here. Like BC said, the Federal xm193 is kind of a standard round.
