I remember my mom griping, early 60s I think, when premium gas went from 0.15 to 0.17/gallon. I recall gas wars where regular was 0.25/gallon in 1969.

As far as when I was driving, I do remember filling up and getting change back for a $5 bill.Cheapest I ever remember paying for gas was 13.9cents/gal at the first self service in Irving. Walking to the corner grocery store and getting a Dr Pepper (10-12 oz btl) and a large Baby Ruth for a quarter. Milk was $1/gal.
