    * I'm authorized to carry a gun and you aren't authorized to know why.

    * Do you make a habit of interogating strangers?

    * Why is your nose too big?

    * Ever heard of the Second Amendment?

I carry because it is a given right bestowed to all law abiding Americans. I carry because with the anarchists have taken over American society and common sense has gone by the wayside. I carry because it is logical and makes sense in a world that doesn't.

Why do I carry a GUN?

    Friends,
I say, "What a good question!
I'm a civilian, just like you.
Just like you, I lead a normal life.
My gun protected my family and me.
    Not once.
    Not twice.
    Not three times.
    But four times.
    [Pause]
Four times in the last 50 years.
No gun, I might not be here, today, with you.
    [Pause]
I worry that there might, just might, be a next time."

All the serious answers are taken, i'll just add:

    1) Because I quit karate when I was 5.
    2) Because the government required that I classify my body as a killing implement but not my pistol.
    3) Because the added weight balances me out.

Because the Country that our forefathers made for us saw that we could never maintain that wonderful Republic if in case despotic persons gained control of our Government with the aim of changing it into something else like a Kingdom, Dictatorship, Communist or Socialist Regime, or just wild, crazy anarchy. Those early Patriots had to be armed to drive the British out and keep them and all other enemies out of our Country & Government. I think it may have been Jefferson that said it was our duty to take up arms in case of a despotic takeover or the coup from within. Any present day American Patriot who holds these beliefs no doubt will be considered a potential "terrorist" by certain ingrained political misfits whose goal is to destroy our Republic. Keep your powder dry, and your rifle bore clean and oiled...GOD Bless America, GOD Bless Texas !

    Because I am compensating.....

Compensating for the fact that God did not make me badass enough to take on a bunch of hoodlums empty handed.
Compensating for the fact that I feel responsible for defending my wife and kids.
Compensating for not having a policeman in my back pocket.

I find it's sort of like anything else, For them that beleive no proof is needed, for them that do not no proof is sufficient. People that are anti-gun will have any manner of comeback for just about any reason that we can legitimately support. So I usually stick with "why don't you?" or "Its my constitutional right & obligation."

Frankly I got tired of answering this question to the wanna be victims out there. I just tell them "because I can." Now, on the oft chance that I get someone that wants to have a discussion, well there are many reasons. Protection of myself and those around me. To support gun rights everywhere. The list can go on.

To quote a bumper sticker I once spotted, "When seconds count, the police are just minutes away." Rather sums up the situation nicely.
