Yeah, but I actually listened to his video and he earned that.I would not consider Ayoob one of "those types"....unless that type is the educated, experienced, and pretty damn smart type....

I don't think Ayoob was making a case for not open carrying. He stated that he often does open carry to get a sense of how it's received. I believe it was more aimed at having discretion on when to open carry. I believe he lives in New Hampshire, and although it's legal there, the sentiment of open carry may be of a different nature than say, Texas. I don't disparage those that feel better carrying concealed, I do me.I'm sick and tired of those types trying to hide the weapons. Open carry has been fine in numerous environments for me ever since it became legal. I think there's a segment of "our side" - if you can call it that - that are trying to hard to not offend and appease, that they make up ridiculous arguments that don't stand up to scrutiny or actual practice.
I think what chaps some folks (me included) is blurring the line between what’s legal and what’s opinion. We see it here with all the opinions around 30.05/.06/.07 signs and previous confusion around the Motorist Protection Act.…. I believe it was more aimed at having discretion on when to open carry. Certainly, but I don't believe that was Ayoob's point, or that he was making any point on legality. Like him, although I probably open carry far more than him, I'm middle of the road between the absolutists. I thought he made pretty clear it was his opinion. Now if you mean on this website, well, there are a few I've seen that are close if not exactly absolutists, so they're going to lean much further one way or another.I think what chaps some folks (me included) is blurring the line between what’s legal and what’s opinion. In my opinion, opinions need to be clearly disclaimed as such.
I see an uptick of shootings around Houston, hell all over the country. It's a shame, 2 within 1/2 mile from my house in the past week.
Since the left controls much of the news, of course you'll hear more of those for gun control than against. They'll use anything to promote their ideals. That's why you have to dig to find any stories that are favorable towards the 2nd Amendment. Funny thing is, most the gun deaths in the nation are in heavily democrat areas, many that have the strictest gun control.Yep... And what never surprises me is the chatter on apps like Nextdoor where so many blame Abbott because "anyone can get a gun now"! Some people do chime in and try to correct them on what the laws really say, but it gets to be an exercise in futility...
That's my take on it tooHonestly, as someone who open carries quite often, I am surprised at how few people actually notice it! I have only had a few comments made--and to date none were negative--and while there are strong opinions in the open vs. concealed debate, most are far from factual.
I understand the element of surprise, but I also understand how open carry allows one to draw their weapon quicker. And, as mentioned, the general public has to understand it is allowed and sometimes that takes educating them by doing so.
Is open carry a deterrent? I don't really think so given how rarely people notice it. Does conceal carry really provide that much of an advantage? Again, doubtful as the obvious time and gestures it takes to draw a weapon from a concealed location negates any upper hand which may have been gained by not being readily obvious a person is carrying.
Honestly, I think it is a wash, thus arguments to one over the other are pointless to me. I've heard enough of both sides and have yet to be convinced by the rhetoric.
In the end it really just doesn't matter...
As far as a deterrent? There is no way to really measure that. Would someone looking to do harm not notice how a person is armed? Who knows for sure? The only time I have noticed that someone has seen my firearm is when they say something like "Nice gun!" or "What kind of gun are you carrying?" Generally, at the times I do decide to conceal, it's more of just pulling my shirt over my firearm that I had been open carrying.Honestly, as someone who open carries quite often, I am surprised at how few people actually notice it! I often wonder how many people cellphones have killed, taking the leftest ideal that inanimate objects can kill.Too many are busy looking down at their phones to notice what is on your side.
I open carry on my bike. A little over a year ago I was at a light in an industrial area of town so no residential traffic or families. Dump truck pulled up next to me honked, pointed at my side arm and gave me a thumbs up. I acknowleged back, then he reached down and pulled out his pistol on his pinkey finger. Up until that point it was cool, but then it kinda got wierd like we were besties or something.I saw a guy in my side of town riding his motorcycle open carrying his 1911 pistol. Last time I saw someone open carrying was two months ago at my local Oreily auto store and he was open carrying a Beretta 92.

FIFY.Was out riding in the country one day, and came across someone that wrecked.
I stopped and checked on him, and he asked me to look for his Kimber that went flying.
"Never found it."
What did you fix?FIFY.
So Cammy, how's that Kimber you found shooting?
