    I can tell you what some of the problem is;

    Penal Code
    Code of Criminal Procedures
    Transportation Code
    Family Code
Health & Safety Code (drug laws)
    Education Code
    Alcoholic Beverage Code
    Parks & Wildlife Code

Changes in ALL of those every two years.

Plus local laws and ordinances, policies and procedures, etc........

There is no way to keep all of that in your head at once. Roll call training must be conducted by LE administration to update officers on the changing laws, officers MUST keep paper or digital copies of these codes with them on duty and be able to refer to them.

DAs MUST refrain from instructing officers based on their OPINIONS, etc., etc.

I don't know the answer, but we need one!

I empathize. That's a ton of stuff to remember, much less understand.

By the same token, it really sucks to be a citizen on the receiving end of a misinformed officer.

We're all human, though, and as long as the citizen remains respectful, things will usually turn out ok.

As a former cop I want to empathise with the officers; however, as a "civilian" now I don't want to suffer at the hands of an ill informed one.

Because DPS did not have the information your Sheriff gave you, did they?

To the contrary, it means exactly that. Texas does not recognize non-valid licenses. To do so would be absurd. To an objective third person, it is clearly answered.

Stop, Stop right there sir! Who asked you to make sense?

Yes, yes, I am going to get a Texas CHL...Not worth the trouble and or ...

Wow, lots of replies! On the address thing, I will be carrying in TX on my AZ permit, and there is no address on the AZ permit, just full name and description, so that's a moot point. But I will of course update AZ DPS with my new address as soon as I move.

My CA permit becomes void as soon as I become a non-resident so I won't be able to carry on that in TX. I'll keep it as a souvenir though for everyone I meet who doesn't believe that I have a CA CCW :)

Either way I'll get a TX CHL just to avoid confusion with an ill-informed LEO but I'm glad to know I don't have to get one right away and will be able to carry from day one on my AZ permit.
