Can anyone guess what the extra wood pieces are for?

Hmm. Makes it easier to draw from a scabbard? Either that or heat mirageCorrect, that is what the piece on the magazine was for. The extended handguard had another purpose as well.

Haha yep pretty much. Allows you to get a full grip on the bayonet without burning your hand when wrapping it around the barrel.I'm guessing it had something to do with mounting a bayonet...that was so brilliant nobody has ever copied it.

Oh those silly Dutch.
That Particular rifle is one of the easiest to shoot well I have ever owned. It shoots well out to 800 yds and that is the farthest I have tried. Maybe after I get my house sold I will find a place to send it a bit more.7mm-08 is my favorite use of the 308 case.

Yep, shoot the same projectile over a case full of Varget. Works astonishingly well ! I have been considering doing the Ackley to mine also. a lil more push won't hurt...I have an ackley version of the 7mm-08 but run it around what most max loads for the standard version is. I’ve had solid luck with 162gr a max/eld and 168gr smk out to a mile.
