Chisholm Trail Bbq was great the few times that I've been there too. Riley's Bbq across the street from it sucked the time I went.Very welcome.
If you're coming down may as well stop by Lockhart and check out Black's, Smitty's and Kreuz bbq joints. Whole new argument there.
Didn't know they had 4 to start. I grew up near the Leon Springs location and even worked a summer job there in HS. I was always told it was the original. Either way I like eating there. Met several of the Spurs team there also. David Robinson and Tim Ducan were regulars.
Killen's BBQ in the Woodlands has some of the best creamed corn I've ever had. Plus the rest of their stuff ain't bad either.Who has better creamed corn than Rudy's?
Honestly for all the hype Killen's gets on TV, magazines, etc. I thought their bbq was way overrated.Killen's BBQ in the Woodlands has some of the best creamed corn I've ever had. Plus the rest of their stuff ain't bad either.
The grill burned down again? I remember it burned down before. I want to say around 2000? That's a shame. The Leon Springs store is the no-kidding original location. The other 3 in SAT came later. Between that location and The Grill at Leon Springs (burned down earlier this year) in their heyday, you could expect to run into any number of the Spurs on just about any given day.
That was a long time ago.

I've been there once but never thought to try the creamed corn. Thanks.Killen's BBQ in the Woodlands has some of the best creamed corn I've ever had. Plus the rest of their stuff ain't bad either.

Rudy's is good in my book there is better, but Rudy's is available and at a good price.Besides some small mom-n-pops or food trucks/trailers where does Rudys fall on your list? I give it a good high five on all but the ribs.
I have been here near Tyler for 5 years now and been meaning to go to Rudy's. I have tried most of the BBQ places in and around Tyler and have yet to find one that is consistent/good. Stanley's is overrated and most of the other places are hit and miss; my guess is that it is hard to keep good staff unless you are the owner/cook/manager yourself.I guess the Rudy's in Tyler is one of the originals as I never noticed a breakfast menu. DW and I eat there every time we go to Tyler, their stuffed tater is really good and filling. Unfortunately we only eat there about every 6 weeks, usually because of Dr's appointments there.
