I saw that movie! And the sequels. Some chimpanzees and capuchin monkeys have been seen flaking rocks to create basic stone tools - a definite step toward more complex thought and capability. Chimps are also known to craft wooden tools - including scraping them to useful shapes and teaching their young how to make and use them. Their brains are developing.
