Sounds like a good scope. I recently conducted a scope experiment myself. I put a $300 Sightmark Citadel 4 - 16 X 50 on my Savage 308. I was planning to hold out and get a Vortex or maybe another Nightforce, but my favorite Odessa gun store made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. They needed someone to test a new product they had just started carrying, and made me a “satisfaction guaranteed” offer. If I liked it, the price was $300, if not, just bring it back. I am happy to report that I now own a Sightmark scope. Good clear glass, illuminated mil-dot reticle, and large zero stop turrets.I recently bought an Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56 rifle scope for $360. For my choices of reasonably priced scopes I have been a big fan of Vortex, but recently I had heard a lot about Athlon. Now I know that many will jump on the fact that it's made in China, but after reading a lot of reviews and doing a bit of research, I decided that for $360 I would give it a try.
To be honest, I'm quite impressed with the Athlon's performance. With the many Vortex scopes I have one difference I can tell is there is a greenish hue with the Vortex that I don't see with the Athlon, not to say that that is good or bad, just that it's noticeable. The clarity is every bit on par with the Vortex, even the Viper. I put it on it's strongest power and even then, at least at 200 yards, it's seemed very clear and quite easily able to count the holes in the target I made with my 22-250.
Now I'm not trying to put down Vortex, I still like them quite well, but the size of this Athlon scope could have easily costed twice as much had I gone with Vortex.
