The next 2 episodes are supposed to be non stop action with the edition of 2 new characters at the finale the governor and michonne. Season 3 is supposed to be better than season 2 with more action and more zombie stomping.

I would guess its a relatively new infection that is causing it. But if the doc told him he would have know to watch for shane.
