    Smith & wesson model 60 with a 3 inch barrel in 357mag. Been carrying it for about 15 years now.
    Mine is in .38. It has occurred to me many times in the years I've owned it that if I had to make do with just one handgun, it would be a reasonable choice. Love that thing.

    But it is, evidently the earlier ones were .38.
    That is what is marked on the barrel.

    Is it ".38" or is something else there, like .38LC, .38S&W, or .38SPL ?

    I had an old police revolver marked ".38LC" and was told to not fire it with anything but .38 Long Colt ammo.

    I had fired it long ago & it functioned well, but it was one of those with the one-piece hammer/firing pin, so to carry it, was always one empty chamber in its cylinder under the hammer. (No drop-safety)

    It was from a Grandfather & is now a wall-hanger at my older Son's.
