Shooting buddy called to say he was bringing me something. I knew he was returning from Harlingen and would be passing by Ruben’s Tacos in San Antonio which reminded me that I had a dozen frozen waiting for a special treat. Quick fast in a hurry I got those into boiling water inside the vacuum bag and started whipping up a pot of Texas Red and a skillet of Mexican cornbread. No beans. Pinto beans are fine but have no place in chili, IMNSHO.

Man o’ Man! That chili would peel paint and remove rust! The Ruben’s hot pork tamales were delicious, of course. I believe I could live on Mexican cornbread and butter.

About an hour too late for supper, he and his lovely wife showed up with a pint of Serrano salsa that we shared washed down with fresh lime margaritas. Best dessert ever!
