I'm a little late to this one, but have to wonder, do I really have to answer? If my 30-30 hears me say .270, I don't want to be the next guy to open the closet door. I have a 30-06 that doesn't even belong to me. Will he be offended? But the truth is, everyone in the closet secretly detests the AR-10 .243 I kind of feel bad for the guy. Everyone assumes he's the favorite but I have never indicated one way or another.

"rusty romey" with a new romey barrell on a NoDak spud reciever. My favorite, even if I built it myself!
Second fav is my Saiga .308. Pretty much covers anything I might shoot unless It takes a shotgun, then it would be the Saiga-12.

I didn't build my Romey, but I like it just fine. 20201210_180211.jpg

I love AK's but, when it's time for war I'm grabbing my dead stock Colt 6920 and heading out the door.

    Why?

    1. Light weight
    2.Ergonomics
    3.Low recoil
    4.Ballistics of 5.56x45
5.Adaptable, fit almost anything to it.
6.Popularity, take spare parts and ammo from your dead enemies.

The "late model" IH or H&R GARAND M1.
    (LTG Patton was/IS 100% CORRECT.)

I'm old enough to remember when the "flags" in RVN DEMANDED that everyone TURN-IN their Garands, to receive a M16.

LOTS of wailing & gnashing of teeth followed those orders, especially when it was learned that some "perfectly serviceable" M1 rifles were loaded onto choppers & dumped in the South China Sea.

    yours, satx
